Pretty steep going back up, to get to emeralds point you have to go through a campground

Make you sure pay attention to the forking of the trail. You’ll want to make sure you stay in the right fork. If you take the left fork, you’ll end up going up to the hwy and you don’t want to do this by mistake bc it’s unshaded. The rubicon trail though is beautiful and lots of cute little hang out stops along the train to play in the water. Be prepare for going back up the vikingsholm trail back to the parking lot. Bring a hat! Some ares are unshaded and that with a hot day can be a tough mudder!

Awesome view from the top, and equally beautiful to walk around the lake from the bottom of the trail. Convenient but limited parking at the trail head.

We just went sight seeing at the vista point. Gorgeous and the water really is emerald. :) Be cautious driving up.

Everywhere you look is beautiful! Super easy as your start on the trail is downhill, it is slightly difficult on your way back out as it’s uphill the whole time. I still think all levels and ages can do this, just might need to take a break half way of the incline is too intense for you.

Pretty easy trail, going back up is the hardest. Found some swimming spots along the way. Take a walk out on the boat deck and get a good view of the whole bay.

This is a good trail for all levels. The first half is wide with a decent incline (descending in, ascending out), then narrows and flattens as you walk beside the lake. The views are fantastic, and there are lots of places to get in the lake along the way. Wear your swimsuit if you want to take a dip, or there is a place to rent kayaks just off to the side of the trail about halfway through. I would recommend starting your trip to Tahoe with this trail because it’s not very difficult and you get to see great views of the lake from up high and right next to the water.

Beautiful views. The pictures don’t do justice because of the scale of it all. Forgot to record the way out, only to the way back. About 5 miles total. Blast!

Great little stroll through the woods with great view of the bay. There are alot of great swimming spots along the hike. Took a quick dip in the crystal clear water. The trail was Only part I'd consider moderate is coming back up to the parking lot. Overall a great stroll. highly recommend getting there early for parking. We got there at 9 am on Saturday and parking was full. Had to park down the road.

pleasant little wander through the forest by the lake. you do pass through a campground, but there are also several low key spots you can duck off by the lake and have some moments of solitude and a swim! Arrive early, parking was terrible when I left!

Good trail parking is very limited and had to park on the road quite a ways away even though we got there a little before 9 am. Still beautiful views and worth seeing.

Absolutely perfect conditions mid-August. It gets hot around mid day, but perfect temps in the morning. Beautiful vistas walking down and amazing along the lakeside. Get there early. Parking lot is small and will be full y 9am and parking along the roadside means a dangerous and long walk.

Wonderful hike with family. It wasn’t hard but had some rocks and logs for the more adventurous kids to climb on. It was an easy hike (steep hill back to the parking lot but it was a smooth path). Beautiful views of the lake the entire time. We found a nice place to eat lunch and the kids got wet a little. It was an out and back hike not a loop. It starts and ends at a nice small beach area so we all jumped in at the end. It was crowded and parking was tough. Get there early. We parked along the road. I was glad we had extra adults so the kids didn’t need to walk in the busy road.

Stunningly beautiful, easy trail (except the 1/4 mile back up to the parking lot at the end. Save water and take your time!) Crystal turquoise waters to the right, towering trees to the left that provide just the right amount of shade. This trail is actually part of the Rubicon trail. I never saw a sign for the Emerald Bay Trail, nor did I see a sign where it ended, so I ended up going further (which was fine because it was a nice dirt path and the lake views and serenity of the forest were worth every step) Plenty of places to stop for a rest/snack along the way. I never even opened my hiking poles. Not overly crowded on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. This is perfect for beginners and children (again, with the exception of the ascent back to the parking lot). For this reason I recommend doing the side trail to Eagle Falls on the front end rather than at the end, as it’s also a little bit of a climb (not too bad). You will also see the Vikingsholm house on the way to the falls. Took me about 3 hours. But as mentioned, I went about a mile farther than expected, and added the detour to Eagle Falls (for a total of 8 miles)

pretty hike with great views. started at 8am, parking was easy, $10 with a ticket machine that took card. hiked down to the viking house then around the Rubicon trail. great views and secluded steps down to the water at multiple points.

Generally easy out and back hike. Scenic views of the bay and plenty of places to stop for great photos. Somewhat muddy in places but overall a clean, well defined path.

Fun trip down the mountain but that’s about the hardest part of it. Of course the return trip up the hill could be challenging to some. The trail just kind of ends without signage but then you get to explore on your own which is a blast. It’s a hike around the bay so it’s a gorgeous hike the whole way. Highly recommended! Get there early bc the parking lot fills up quickly.
