Elk Prairie Trail is a 3.2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Orick, California that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
Bette trail than I thought it would be. There are some very nice redwoods on the east side. There were only a half dozen elk in the meadow I could see from the east. By the time I got around to get closer they were gone.
Easy trail that can been made into a loop trail (see Matt's review) according to the rangers the elk are not seen in the meadow as often as they once were.
Pretty average trail that follows the east side of the meadow through the trees. It makes a good connector going from Cathedral Trees trail around to the campground without taking the road. Once you loop around to the west side of the meadow, take the left turn onto the "nature trail" to go to the campground south loop. There are also usually some elk around.
