Getting There

Yosemite National Park is open to those with reservations begining on Thursday, June 11. See the park website for more info: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/covid19.htm A glacier-carved alpine lake located at the base of Unicorn Peak offers scenic views and tranquility. Elizabeth Lake (9,487 feet) is located at the base of Unicorn Peak (10,823 feet) and easily accessible from the Tuolumne Meadows campground. The Elizabeth Lake trail begins in the B loop of the campground, rises gradually along Unicorn Creek for about 2.3 miles, and gains 1,000 feet in elevation change to reach the lake. You need to cross the creek to reach the lake side at the end of trail. In the snow melting season, the creek may be too deep and swift to cross. For people who seek solitude and tranquility, this is a good hike to enjoy in the Tuolumne Meadows area.

California Travel and Tourism Commision, P.O. Box 1499 , Sacramento, CA, 95812-1499, Phone: 800-862-2543 Yosemite National Park http://www.nps.gov/yose/

Directions from Tioga Pass: Follow Tioga Road westward approximately 7 miles to the access road for Tuolumne Meadows Campground. Turn left in to the campground. Follow signs to the campgrounds horse camping area. The trailhead lies near the bathrooms of the horse camp.

Short, sweet, relatively easy hike, with some incline in the beginning. Enjoyed walking along the babbling brook, which led to the beautiful lake. Took a cold and refreshing swim upon arrival. Watch out for the insects, though; bring some bug spray. Bonus: spotted a doe on the way up and stag on the way down.

Beautiful trail. Mostly uphill at various inclines. We saw only twenty people or soon five hours.

Very rocky. Tough the way up but as expected going up a mountain. Views are spectacular once you’re there. Got there in time for the sunset behind the mountain. The way back is much much easier, just still lots of stepping over & on rocks.

Amazing trail. Probably one of the most secluded of our trip yet. Did not see another single person the entire time. Only a group of about 5 deer. Well worth it!

Cool and windy at the lake with only a high in the 50’s in mid sept. Lake and peak together great photo op with some dark clouds mixed in. Many deer along the trail

Walking around the lake was a big mistake too wet. And the entire trail was buggy.

This hike was very enjoyable. Good steep climb to begin with. Sounds like went a great time. Crossed the river via rocks and were able to hike around the lake. A few muddy spots here and there. No biggie. Bug spray is a must! Mosquitoes are relentless.

I went way beyond where the trial ended, but the hike is still beautiful and worth doing.

This was a beautiful hike, with great views at the top. There is still a large amount of snow on the trail and you have to forge a waist-deep river to get to the lake side. The Current was very strong so we decided not to forge the river. Probably would be a better hike in a month when the snow is gone and the water is down. Hike is mostly uphill.

Amazing hike, unbelievable wildlife. Downside: mosquitoes, along the whole hike they were no stopping trying to bite us. Bring long sleeves is a must. Note: no dogs are allowed!
