Seriously gorgeous east bay hills, complete with lots of cows who love hanging out in the path. the view at the end was fantastic. I went on a drizzly Thursday afternoon, so very few people, but 7/10 were masked.
GEOLOGY! This loop has some of the best exposures of local geology around. So cool! The hill in the middle is rough but overall a great hike.
Beautiful trail, not too muddy after the rain. Lots of variations with ups, downs, and flat spots.
Moderate to Streneous hike. Beautiful views. Kids Friendly if you dont take Devils Hole.
Beautiful views. The declines were very steep, not my favorite
Great view at the summit, however the two star is for any families with little children: the elevation and climb are super hard for little children and it can get really challenging with little ones not willing to make the move. It’s very busy during a Sunday afternoon, the elevation and climb makes it hard to keep the mask on all the time and it’s not convenient to put the mask on and off all the time when there are groups of people coming and going and some of them do not care enough to have their masks. Think twice if you have little children and are not ready for a strenuous hike.
Great trail, good climbs and gorgeous vistas. I cut through on Ridgeview & Cuesta to reduce to a 5 mile loop. Not too crowded on a late Saturday afternoon.
Fire road, good for an out and back trail run. Some tough hills. Moderate traffic.
It was alright. Got there too early and the park gate was closed. We parked to the side which was closer to the trail but we decided to walk to the start of the trail and backtracked, so we go some extra steps. It’s no5 the prettiest hike but it was interesting to see gold fish in the cattle trough.
The hike down to Devils Hole and back up is very steep. I would recommend this detour only if you’re trying to get more distance and elevation. For better views I would say stay on the ridge line.
