hiked this traiI on New Year s day 2020. plenty of hikers today. you can buy a limited day use annual pass good at a lot of California State Parks. the pass is not usable from memorial day to labor day, but still a great savings since it covers parking fees

This trail takes you up in elevation and towards the last mile, you are rewarded with the ocean view. The last portion is extremely steep. I am glad to take the gradual trail up and then ended with a steep down hill slope. It was a great workout. You will be sharing the trail with mountain bikers and they will come through fast. So be careful. There is very little shade. Bring a big hat, a cooling towel, plenty of water, sunblock and something to snack on after the 4 plus mile hike! It was also a little dusty.

I agree with the suggestion to do this clockwise and early. A little shade at the end of the canyon but no breeze. Best views are in top and facing the ocean. Plus you get the breeze in your face. Spectacular views on top of Moro Ridge and Spur! Very well maintained on main trails. Side trails less so and narrow so watch for bikes.

We did the loop clockwise and were rewarded with some spectacular views toward the end, going down moro ridge, then taking BFI. Wild life is abundant. Parking is $15. No dogs allowed on any of the trails

The canyon route was a nice semi flat area and there was a cool cave full of mosquitoes which was a suprise. Once you are in the back by the fence line it is a one person wide trail which felt really nice and cozy. The Ridge Road has absolutely no cover. On my gps it showed that the full route was 8.6 miles and that last down hill is the only thing that I found difficult. It was beautiful and you can end it by going to the beach to rest your feet in the water. I really enjoyed this hike. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.

5/30/2019 Nice trail, the incline of 1,000’ wasn’t so bad at all, but we went early to avoid the hot sun. Elevation gain is all in the first half of the trail. Second half is all down hill with a slight ocean breeze that felt so good! We saw a few hawks soaring gliding over us, a few quail looking type birds ran across the path, as well as a king snake! Reward at the end was the beautiful ocean view and today there were sailboats out...so peaceful.

$15 day use parking but then you can use the whole state park. Keep following the roads through the parking lots and you can park right by the trailhead. Toilets, water fountains, and trail and park information are all at the trailhead. Very little shade along trail. Take BFI (big f***ing incline?) to the right first for some early, fast, and long elevation gain. Take El Moro Canyon Trail first for a much less intense start. Beautiful views of the coastline along BFI. I accidentally added about a mile to my hike by taking a wrong turn along Fenceline at the north end of the trail. With some stopping for sunscreen, snacks, and photos, I did about 9 miles in 3 hours.

Great regular MTB workout if you’re a local. Suggest you take fence line at the top instead of Bommer for some more fun!

We live local and access this trail a couple of times a week. It is comprised of both narrow and wide trails. On weekends you will encounter a significant amount of hikers and bicyclists, and parking is limited. Along the trail you will see multiple types of shrubs, weeds, and cacti. The hike climbing back down to the lower parking lot and from Moro Ridge is the most beautiful. You have sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean , and on a clear day you can see as far north as Palos Verdes, San Clemente Island to the West. Along the trails you will encounter numerous birds, rabbits, and occasionally snakes ( rattler, king, and gopher ). If you have an entire day, bring a cooler and your lawn chairs, and after the hike you can access the beach through the pedestrian tunnel. This beach is rarely busy (due to limited parking) and is unparalleled in beauty. If you still have energy though, you can meander north on the sand for about a mile to the Beachcomber Restaurant. Fresh food and libations. I would recommend the Pim Cup.

Amazing view of the beach and cute art works when you enter the tunnel at the beginning of trail. Prepare yourself for a lot of inclines. Definitely worth the hike, though!

Nice hike. Clean path. Take a swim at the beach after your hike. Will do it again.

7/3/17. Did Moro Canyon to East cut across to Moro Ridge. Trail starts low and slow. Cut across provides all elevation. WOW at top. Worth the hike! 5 miles. Great trail. Can do it in sneakers.

Will be back to hike this trail again. There were a lot of mountain bikers on the trail also. The view and the ocean breeze from the trail was amazing
