Getting There

A trail that takes you through canyon and up to Moro ridge, with sweeping coastal views. The trail begins and ends at the El Moro Visitor Center. This loop gives you a tour of the El Moro Canyon, then climbs over 800' in elevation to the ridge line, where you'll enjoy some of the best coastline views in the park. Parking Fee: $15

There is plenty of parking at the Pelican Point Entrance, Los Trancos Entrance, Reef Point, and at the El Moro Visitor Center. A day pass is $15.00 (good for anywhere in the park) Annual Pass $125.00

Crystal Cove Interpretive Association P.O. Box 4352 Laguna Beach. CA 92652 949-494-3539 Official Crystal Cove State Park website http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=644

There is no shade, so wear protective clothing and sunscreen. There is no water, except at the visitor center. Bring plenty. This hike has a substantial elevation gain and can get hot.

3 miles S of Corona Del Mar, on Pacific Coast Highway, look for a traffic light signed "School-State Park"-turn north (inland), and proceed past El Moro School to a stop sign-turn right, and proceed uphill, veering right, into the El Moro Canyon/Crystal Cove parking lot near the Park Headquarters.

Loved this trail. Great workout and elevation changes. Not a lot of shade so make sure to bring sunscreen and water.

Great trail!!! Amazing workout every time, also very manageable for people of all fitness levels! The beginning is the hardest part! It is always so beautiful and fun to do with others especially with the small path leading to the beach under the Highway after you finish the trail. Only downside is that there are no dogs allowed.

Beautiful trail with near constant views of the ocean. If you take it counterclockwise you will get quite steep incline at the beginning or vice verse down incline at the end depending on what you prefer. Ocean breeze keeps things cool. Plan to pay $15.35 through an app for parking which is luck of the draw to find any available. Seemed like the morning crowd was leaving when we arrived Saturday around Noon so we lucked out. Only about 1/10 wearing masks so bring yours to stay safe from others on the trail not so considerate.

Nice trail that has a challenging hill for the first 1.5 miles or so if you go counter clockwise. We went at 7am on a Saturday and it was already very crowded. The trail is wide in most areas but you do share this trail with mountain bikes. I only rated a 4 because the actual trail is fairly bland with very little change of scenery along the way. Yes you have some beautiful vista points of the ocean but not much else the rest of the way. We finished the 5 miles in just under 2 hours.

Get started early so you don’t have to hike in the heat and to avoid crowds of people especially on the weekend. Very long incline for 1.3 miles. Very good workout though and can’t beat the view. A bit of a steep decline towards the end so watch your step. No dogs allowed on this trail but took the kids ages 10 to 13.

arrived at 8am on a Sunday and finished by 9:30 - parking lot was full by then & lot closed to new visitors. ($15 and download the passport app for easy pay) It wasn’t too crowded on the trail - lots of people park here for the beach. Few mask wearers but trail was wide so easy to distance at that hour. Also made it easy to zig zag down (protect those knees!) on the short & steep descent at the end. We opted to go clockwise and enjoy the beach views on the way down. Made for an easy, enjoyable morning stroll!

Super busy but nice trail, great for a leisurely hike, be sure to wear a mask as majority of people do not. Lots of annoying and dangerous mountain bikers zipping by.

Counterclockwise is probably the best bet. Starts with a bit of a steep climb for the first 1.5 miles that wouldn’t have been too fun to descend. A gradual downhill for the remaining 3.5 miles. Decently trafficked, and not a lot of people wearing masks.

Did it counter clockwise which I’m super happy about- major incline but pretty easy the rest of the way. Came at 8am Friday morning, very little foot traffic with few bikers. Parking was pretty much empty but full once we returned around 10.

Great, easily accessible trail. Parking can be paid via the Passport app and it’s $15. There’s no shade at all so be prepared with lots of water, though the ocean breeze does help. The best thing about this trail is it can be either easy or difficult depending on the route you take so it’s a great place for all levels.

Fun hike although you will be exposed to the sun the entire time. Luckily, the onshore flow helps somewhat. There were a surprising number of mountain bikers when we went. Go early!

Awesome views! I recommend doing it counterclockwise, as others have stated.
