Echo lakes is an awesome trail which we hiked (5/29) and the views of the lakes once you get to upper echo lake are breathtaking in my opinion. The hike itself was about 5-5.5 miles long and we took our 2 yr old chocolate lab with us and had a blast! The trail is well defined and is pretty easy until you start to ascend to upper echo..it just gets a little more rocky and steep, which may be a challenge for some. There was still a bit of snowmelt when we went and lots of snow left up in the mountains above echo lakes. The best thing to do is get there early since this trail leads to multiple lakes beyond upper echo lake and gets a lot of foot traffic from other hikers. Overall we loved this hike and would highly recommend!

I walked to the end of the trail around upper echo lake. The hike was beautiful as you get to see the view of the lake nearly the whole entire time walking. It was more of a walk than a hike but still enjoyed the amazing views.

My daughter and I hiked this trail this afternoon. It was around 80 degrees with clear blue skies. The trail is well maintained. There were fewer people than when we hiked here last year. Everyone was practicing social distancing. There are plenty of places to step off the trail to give people going the opposite direction or passing at least 6 feet of space. It was always a good opportunity to take in the spectacular views. Everyone was extremely courteous. The restrooms, which are at the trailhead/parking lot were unlocked but are not being maintained by the Forest Service due to COVID-19. There is no paper. We did not encounter any problem with insects.

It was raining a little too hard to do the whole trail. It’ll have to attempt again in Better weather or at least warmer clothes.

This is a beautiful trail. We went out on Saturday (May 23rd) and hiked from the parking lot to Ralston Peak as an out and back. I love this trail however, right now the majority of the trail is running water and once you get past that, it’s all snow. The last 2.5 miles from the trail up to Ralston was complete snow coverage but pretty easy to follow the foot prints to the summit. The running water can get tiresome. By the time I got back to the parking lot both boots and socks were soaked. Echo Lakes are gorgeous right now and Tamarack is still frozen over. If you push on, Lake in the Woods is also still frozen and the views are unreal right now. Definitely recommend doing it just be aware you’ll be dealing with the snow and run off the majority of the trail.

I would definitely recommend it but be sure you have proper hiking boots and gear. It’s icy and muddy this time of year. With the closures, you have to hike an extra few miles to get in. Be safe!

Gorgeous hike, still a bit of snow to avoid but nothing too major. Parking lot was still closed but possible to park a 15 min walk away down the hill

Went yesterday and there was snow blocking the roads partway in. Parked on the side of the road as did a few other cars. 15 min walk down to the trail starting point. The first half of the trail is very dry and rocky, the second half had patches of snow and runs offs from the snow melt. Bring waterproof hiking shoes and sun screen!

Always an awesome trail. Wasn’t able to park near the start point so we had to hike in snow for half a mile more. It was all worth it. The upper lake is still frozen tho.

Loved this trail! Still had a fair amount of snow the first mile but nothing too difficult, rest of the trail was clear until the last half mile then a little more snow. Views were incredible the whole way through! Will definitely do again!
