to get to the lassen volcanic national park, for my group at least, cost $30. once you get into the park and get your permit you have to go to get to the parking lot, which was extremely full. this trail would be great for day-hiking but not backpacking. you can't set up camp with in 200 feet of the lake, leaving you to set up camp on a mountain side far from water. this trail was great but just not for backpacking

I was there the weekend that they reopened the park. It was crazy to have this beautiful park practically to myself. There were some patches of snow across the trail, but mostly it was a great hike and place to back country camp. Nice hike, gradual uphill, to a lovely lake. Up on the plateau after about a mile, there are nice views of the peaks.

Great hike with beautiful views on the way in and out, although Echo Lake itself is a little underwhelming. A woman we passed said it was “pretty but not spectacular”, which sums it up well. Hike goes gradually up most of the way, then a shorter steep section down, and a bit of a flat walk to the lake itself. The trail is a lot of loose gravel with some large rocks. Definitely recommend hiking boots but did see some families with tennis shoes. We hiked at a trailhead about .5 miles North of Summit Lake. The hike from our trailhead to that trailhead was fine but no views so I’d recommend just starting at the actual Summit Lake trailhead.

Great way to spend a 3 day weekend. Tons of trail options to customize your route. We ended up cutting our trip a day short due to knee injury. Going to do cinder cone as a day hike.

Beautiful Hike. You go uphill after you pass Summit Lake then then it’s a steep decent down the lake. The water is amazing. One of the best lake swims I’ve ever had. Water is cold but refreshing. The hike back up was easier being soaking wet. We started later so it was pretty warm. Minimal shade so always wear sunscreen and reapply after you swim.

Awesome hike, about just under an hour to the lake. Still a tiny bit of snow patches to cross, nothing major. Beautiful views of Lassen!

Nice hike and amazing lake. It was definitely worth it to jump in.

Superbly maintained, clearly marked, easy trail with excellent footing and a gin- clear high mountain lake at the end. We (both retired & one Medicare eligible for many years) arrived there in less than an hour of walking, despite taking numerous photos of Mt Lassen along the way. Water is chilly but swimmable, as we chatted with two young women who were enjoying the activity on an otherwise hot day.

This hike was way harder than it needed to be for some reason. Everyone we saw was out of breath and I could barely keep walking.

Echo Lake was beautiful and an easy hike to get to from the Summit Lake Ranger Station trail head. There are several other lakes to visit not much further from Echo Lake. And the return hike from Echo Lake to Summit Lake gives you one of the greatest views of Mt. Lassen in the entire park. This is a great day hike or stop along an overnight. However, I do believe there was a sign which stated no camping at Echo Lake. So take note.
