Very nice trail. Partially sunny, partially shady, both flat and hilly areas. My feet started hurting around mile 7 and were killing me by the end, but after I rest up, I plan on doing it again. Also, I saw a wild coyote on the hike, that was awesome!

This is the Lake Chabot Bike Loop. The dam project is now officially finished (as of October 2017) and the entire loop is open again.

I recommend doing the loop counter clockwise. The first 2 miles along the east shore are paved and there are a lot of pedestrians, so it’s a good warmup on the bike. Then there’s the steep ascent up Live Oak Trail that is the most difficult part. Once you reach Brandon, it’s a wide trail with a series of descents that is a blast on a bike. Eventually you’ll get off Brandon and make another less-steep ascent up Skyline trail and arrive at the Grass Valley parking lot. Then it’s downhill again on Goldenrod until you reach the dam. From the dam back to the marina is all paved with lots of pedestrians again.
