Getting There

This loop is a great combination of easy, paved walking paths and some dirt trails. After about a mile and a half, turn right onto Cameron Loop Trail and leave the Lake Chabot paved pathway. This part of the trail is much less crowded and includes some elevation gain. The trail may be slippery after recent rain so take caution, especially when heading downhill again back towards the paved path.

Took the kids in the double stroller which was hard work but doable until the last quarter mile of the loop when you take a switchback back down to the paved trail. I had to put the baby in my ergo carrier and have the 4 year old walk due to the dangerous conditions. I had filtered for stroller friendly trails so I was a bit shocked. But we made it and it was a great work out!

Did this hike around 10am on 4th of July. The parking lot is large. It was a hot day but the first half of the trail was shady and a beautiful nature walk. Second half is a little more dusty/hot and less scenic, but I like the first half so much that it made up for it. The second half also gave a good workout. I would do this loop more often if I lived closer!

This trail is pretty isolated, I take it to avoid the large crowds that Lake Chabot’s been having. If you come in the late afternoon you’ll encounter many nats and mosquitoes. Other than that it’s a great hike to get your heart pumping!

This was a pretty decent trail. A lot of people for a Friday morning at around 11am. Part of the trail is paved and part is not. Definitely had a lot of bugs on the paved trail though. It was unexpectedly really pretty because most of the path is tree covered and you get a lot of views of the lake. Very easy for beginners and everyone in between.

Pleasant, easy hike. Path by the edge of the lake is wide and paved, then narrows and goes uphill once you leave the lake area. Path by the lake pretty crowded on a Sunday morning, but becomes nearly deserted as we went uphill. Parking lot nearly full by 8:30am.

Nice gentle hike. Pretty wide open trails, good for social distancing and avoiding poison oak. Some shade, but quite sunny in other parts. Nice breeze from the lake though.

Lots of families who can’t control their children. Crowded. Mostly paved but a good walk none the less.

A good mix of paved and dirt paths. Also good for kids (especially if not doing the whole loop). Great views of Lake Chabot!

Perfect for a quick hike. Steep incline depending on which side you start on.

Fun mix of terrain and views, open exposure and forest cover. Hiked with a toddler in a backpack and it was just the right amount of challenge.

I’ve been hiking this area for a couple years now and this is a great route. Good combination of hills and flats, paved and dirt. The map really helped since I almost took the wrong turn

Good quick loop that has a bit of climb. Go counter clockwise so the harder climb is in the shade. Lots of forks so the map helped out. Last half is around the paved trail around the lake so it’s easy and well trafficked. Can finish in 1 - 1.5 hrs.

This was a nice trail with great views of the lake. There are paved portions of the hike on the East Shore Trail. I would grade this hike as easy/moderate, with the moderate portions being on the Indian Cove trail.

Such a beautiful gem! The lake and hills in the background are gorgeous when viewed from a higher point. (Just avoid the geese, heh... and their poo when you’re down at the low points by the picnic areas, etc.)

Lake chabot Indian cove trail, easy 3 mile trail, started off with paved walk then some shady trees off trail, a few uphill climb then back to the main lake chabot paved trail.

Fun hike with the pup and my partner! It was beautiful even on a wi bit of a chilly breeze out. The switch backs made for a nice little challenge.

Nice trail, the switchbacks get your heart rate up a bit but easy otherwise.

Lovely views of the lake! Not a difficult hike at all. I I added on the Ten Hills Trail along the Golf Course to connect to East Shore and skipped the Cameron Loop connector to make my hike 5 miles. More paved route than I prefer but this hike was a good way to get out and avoid some of the smoke that is blanketing the Bay Area. It was pretty busy with fisherman, hikers, bikers, runners. Seems like a lot of people had the same idea of trying to stay active in the smoke.

Did this hike today with my husband and mom. None of us are avid hikers but the hike was the perfect length with just enough hills to make us feel like were getting in our workout.
