This is the easiest of the big loops through Redwood Regional park. Many people suggest doing this clockwise, starting with a leisurely and scenic stroll on Stream Trail. The alternative would be to go up steep and rutted Canyon Trail and get that out of the way first. This loop using the East Ridge and Stream trails, pairs a vigorous hike along an exposed ridge with a secluded downhill ramble in the shade of tall redwoods, an unbeatable combination. Views from the East Ridge Trail are superb, and the regional redwood forest along Redwood Creek is majestic. Water is available at the trailhead and at Skyline Gate and various points along the Stream Trail. Dogs are supposed to be on leash on Stream Trail, but on East Ridge they can be off leash once you are clear of the staging area. East Ridge is heavily trafficked by dog owners near Skyline Gate. You cannot bike this loop. Bikes are permitted on East Ridge and the southern portion of Stream. But bikes are not allowed on the 2 mile section of Stream between Skyline Gate and Trails End. If you want to mountain bike in the park, do the East & West Ridge loop.

Great variation in scenery - forest and exposed areas. Wide trails. Dogs are allowed off leash on the East ridge trail. Do loop clockwise so you go downhill on Canyon trail

This is the easiest of the big loops through Redwood Regional park. I suggest doing it clockwise, starting with a leisurely and scenic stroll on Stream Trail. The alternative would be to go up steep and rutted Canyon Trail and get that out of the way first. I prefer to save Canyon for the end and go down it instead.

The rainy winter of 2017 has wreaked havoc on these trails. The park district is getting things cleaned up, but even in late April the damage is still evident. But don't worry, the trails are open, you just need to go around.

Very nice dog-friendly hike. The redwoods and groves on the Stream Trail portion are top notch.
