Enjoy stunning views on the Ridge Trail. The ridge runs in an East West direction and offers great views of the city. Start at the top of San Bruno Mountain and continue along the ridge. Hike the popular wilderness preserve on this great San Francisco Peninsula hike. Looming large over San Francisco and the northern peninsula, the wilderness preserve of San Bruno Mountain state and county park is home to several rare and endangered species of flora, fauna and wildlife, including the elfin butterfly.

Nice challenge and lots of views but very windy on the ridge trail. The summit loop trail was great—not too windy and pretty. I’ll come back for the loop trail but probably won’t do this route again.

Complaints of the trail not being maintained are exaggerated. I’ve hiked these trails for decades and they are fine. You’re in the outdoors, expect some overhanging plants. Once you are on the ridge, you are on an old dirt road with tons of ups and downs, very much like a fire road trail. The ridge isn’t especially pretty, but incredible views and you can watch planes take off from SFO. No dogs or bikes, that’s a good thing.

Great views, lots of exposure; poison oak galore

Lovely unexpected views! Lots of poison oak on the trails, wear long pants

Great longer hike that's still close to the city. Beautiful views of San Francisco and the water along with wildflowers.

Beautiful views along the ridge trail and highly recommended as an orientation to the area. Only downside is the north/western part of the loop trail is not well maintained and is constricted with vegetation... leading to wet pants from the dew in the morning or exposure to cuts if wearing shorts. I recommend taking the direct portion of the loop trail (heads directly south from the trailhead) versus the longer route to the west which is not well maintained.

Good hike really close to downtown SF, only 15-20 minutes driving! As the name suggests, the majority of this hike is fully exposed so bring sunscreen and a decent amount of water. Was surprised at the amount of fully grown poison oak along the trail this early in the season, and the trail is much narrower at the beginning than I anticipated, so long pants are a must!!

We've only done small pieces of this loop, but we love it. Getting up to the ridge path can be a bit of a haul, but the views are amazing all along the way. In the summer weather pattern you're basically walking right into the fog.

Went on the Ridge trail trek. Good little 2.5 mile trail down and another 2.5 miles back. Great views of San Francisco when the weather is clear. Not very crowded considering the views it provides.

Close to the city and enjoyable enough. You still get city noise on the ridge but you have 360 degree views--bay to South San Francisco to ocean horizon to city skyline. Be sure to have exactly $6 to pay for parking. Do not follow the parking directions on the mobile app--they wound me through a neighborhood where there was no trailhead--or least that I could find.
