Unlike some of the deep, rocky cirques found elsewhere in the Trinity Alps, East Boulder Lake and its smaller siblings sit in the middle of a sprawling basin with plenty of open meadows and commanding views. The short hike is well worth the effort for this very different setting. Free wilderness permit required for overnight visitors. Free campfire permits required for fires and camp stoves. Trails in the Trinity Alps are always open: however, most trailhead access roads are closed or impassable during winter.

Went on 7/7/2018. Easy to find, well maintained forest service road. I would rate as easy because the incline is so gradual. Wildflowers were nearing the end, but thousands of butterflies along the creek, probably because of the blooming milkweed. I believe they were Acmon Blues. Because of the westerly wind direction, no smoke from the Klamathon fire. Forest, meadows, creeks, waterfalls, pristine lake. What more could one ask for?

Beautiful! Trail well maintained, clean, and tons of wildflowers in bloom right now! We went on the 4th of July 2018. Great place for all ages!

Loved this hike. Beautiful!! Loved being close to the PCT too!

I would rate this more of a moderate hike, due to the steady incline and tricky spots on the trail. Gorgeous views and serene atmosphere. Lake is clear and beautiful. Definitely worth the effort.

This was a nice short trail for my first time up in the year. It's short but at a steady incline right from the start. As you get closer to East Boulder lake, it get fairly steep but with the switchbacks, it's doable for all levels. at the top of the trail, you get a beautiful view of the valley and the amazing creek coming down from the lake. A couple of down falls are the lack of descent camp spots, dried cow pies everywhere (good for fire fuel though), and quite a bit of mosquitoes. there is a great 6-7 mile day hike around the ridge that hits the PCT. Absolutely beautiful. would definitely do it again.
