Ended up going straight up the fir road and the view from the top was great. Friendly cows. Will definitely come back on a clear sunny day!
Nice loop! Lots of it follows a river and there are a number of bridges to cross. There is a lot of mud, especially by the water due to recent rains. Nice place for a hike.
This was a good hike. I accidentally ended my recording before I was finished with the hike so I had to restart on a new recording. Trail was a bit muddy in spots but I did not mind
Saw three people because the AQI is 132. Bridges under construction. Since they cut the dead grass on the hills you can see all the beer bottles that were hidden all year. Great view of the smoke covered Bay Area. #CaliforniaFires
Main trail closed to “build three new bridges.” Instead of closing the trail every year to build bridges that bend and break after the first rain in winter what about tending to the dead trees before they disrupt trails, removing debris before they catch fire and utilizing parts of the trail that don’t need a bridge? Is Hayward so afraid of tree huggers that it’s not allowed to cut down dead trees that will inevitably fall on the bridges every single winter? California is a joke.
not super difficult. the second half has some interesting little bridges when it was entering the ranch area.
Great hike going into the the trees/little forest and also loop back goin into the hills with views of the city. Did it on a Wednesday morning starting at about 1030 and finished it at 12:30. I did it with my niece and 3 nephews who are all about 5-10 year old range. It was not too packed in the morning though might get more packed in the evening especially because of covid.
7/6/2020 about 30 feet from the parking lot, right beside the trail we’re the beginnings of a fire. Smoke, embers in the leaves. I stomped it out, spread the dirt. What the actual freak. Fireworks or cigarettes I don’t know but the types of people you get in Hayward, it’s just unbelievable. Unbelievable.
I’ve never seen the parking lot so packed. These crowds don’t know hiking etiquette. Like, don’t walk side by side with your friends and take the whole width of the trail when I’m walking towards you, maybe?
Extended the hike with a brief loop around the steep hill by the visitor's center – which ended up being the best part! When combined with that, the variety of terrain was excellent. A path by an orchard, wide-open rolling hills with views of Hayward, a shady stroll across several bridges, ducks and coots at the pond, and a steep hike amongst wildflowers and birds. Good times.
Great trail with a beautiful lake and some shade until about halfway through when the loop turns back (after that point, completely open unshaded and some cows around). Plenty of parking here (as opposed to the regional park next door) with a fee of $5 plus $2 per dog. Fee was waived for us because of the COVID - no one at the pay station. Not super busy but not empty either... Most of the trail except maybe the middle part - right after the lake but before the loop turns - had enough space where you could keep your 6 feet distance. Pretty views during the second half of the surrounding bay one side, hills on the other side. Would definitely recommend and do again!
More people than I’ve ever seen on a weekday afternoon because of shelter in place. Very green from last week’s rain. Needed the fresh air after being in my room all week.
Over 70 degrees today. Felt like summer. Had to hike even tho I’m sick haha. Beautiful day and the trees are blossoming.
Warm, early spring weather. Cows chilling. Several people with dogs. Really quiet afternoon, no wind.
