This trail on Mt. Shasta is part of the historic Sisson Southern Trail that was used by early climbers and horseback riders to climb the mountain from Sisson (aka: the City of Mt. Shasta). It starts at Bunny Flat and contours around the mountain near timberline to the old ski bowl parking lot and trailhead. It is an easy trail to hike and affords many scenic views of Castle Crags, Grey Rocks, and the Sacramento River valley to the south. It is easy to connect from the upper terminus of this trail to South Gate Trail that continues contouring around the mountain at timberline to Squaw Valley Creek (another outstanding hike).
