Vic surprised me and proposed. One of the happiest days. And a good hike.

Fog hid ocean view at top, but added mystery. Great hike!

Starts off at the Bear Valley Visitor Center. Flat at first alongside the creek. Then you hit the Meadow Trail and you go up, up, up. Pretty nice workout. Lots of tall trees. It was misty the afternoon i went. It was so perfect.

I was looking for a challenging but short trail run while vacationing in the area. I found out that Mt Wittenberg is the tallest peak in the park, so this was my choice! The Bear Valley Trail is a flat dirt service road, which turned out to be a good warm up. Heading up the Meadow Trail was definitely a challenge, and with beautiful views of the forest below you. The meadow halfway up was a nice surprise and reprieve from the elevation gains. The summit of Mt Wittenberg is unassuming, with only a USGS marker to show you are there. This is not a bald, and the trees completely obstruct the view below you. The Mt Wittenberg Trail back down was fast and fun, completely downhill.

Long trail mostly in the trees wondering when I'll get to the "top"... At the end I went off trail straight up through some high grass (bad idea with shorts) and ended up in a clearing with the most amazing view of the bay. The hike was a bust until that one moment. Would do it again just to get to that spot.
