Road bikingOver grownRockyWashed out

Went on a ride from San Francisco to Stinson Beach and unfortunately the bottom part of the trail has eroded a lot you would have to carry your bike up or down. could imagine someone would face plant trying to go down but idk im not a mountain biker. Don't recommend going down because its a super steep rocky slope now and to your right is a barbed wire fence around something that looks like a chicken coop to your left is a rocky stream that is about a 6-8 feet drop. Most likely due to the recent storm we had. Hope I can save some people before they make the mistake of attempting it. Also don't know who to contact about it.

HikingGreat!

Very solid day hike and fun to grab lunch in Stinson. We did the hike clockwise which was great. In hindsight I think I would have preferred counterclockwise since the Zig Zag bit is somewhat steep. I’d rather start with the toughest uphill versus end on a steep down.

HikingGreat!

One of Extremely gorgeous trails. Feels like entering Jurassic Park once you get on Steep Ravine Trail.. making your way thru fallen redwoods and nearby creek! No single ray of light come down here. Weather is mostly chilly in big bright summer days. I started at Muir Woods parking lot which requires reservations. No range at all in this region. So come prepared with downloaded maps. Trails are well marked. No chance of getting lost. Carry lot of water and don’t forget to grab a beer or two when you hit that beach! Returning back is a grueling experience. Half miles of continuous steps will send the heart pumping at its best! Coming to beach via dipsea and returning back via steep ravine would be a better idea if you hate steps!

HikingGreat!

Pretty hard. some useful info - Hike is actually close to 19 miles. Also there are trees blocking trail at some places. But beautiful hike overall. lot of streams and lot shades. follow all trails closely as we went on wrong way for a bit. Beautiful but long trail.

the dipsea trail from mill valley to Stinson beach was good even for a very hot summer day. however, the way back via Matt Davis is not recommended as you have to walk mostly in the open with very few stretches with shade! the final descent from the fire station is ridiculous with steep slopes full of dirt and loose rocks and no directions whatsoever to cascade Dr! the final mile is a walk through the neighborhood!!!!

I finished just under 8.5 hours, including a 30 min detour to have lunch on stinson beach. there were more people than i am comfortable with but they all have masks. zigzag trail is small and very steep with loose rocks so make sure you have good shoes. to find zigzag trail-if there are cars parked, it might block the trail. it is located at the beginning of the parking lot so if you are in the parking lot you have gone too far. just check the front of the cars instead of walking behind the cars.

All day effort with all sorts of different environments to go through. Highly recommend lunch at Stinson halfway. also zig zag trail is a very minor trail that you find after passing the Marin fire station on hog back road, then turning all the way around left to gravity car Rd and picking it up on the right. Zig zag doesn't appear on hiking maps so be aware of it's location before hand!
