Diablo Foothills to Summit Loop is a 25.7 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Walnut Creek, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until September.

This trail is experiencing full or partial closure due to COVID-19. Please see the open trails nearby for alternate hiking options. This route begins at the Diablo Foothills Staging Area, adjacent to the beautiful Castle Rock Recreation Area, part of East Bay Regional Parks. Parking here is free though later in the day you may need to park in the nearby Orchard Staging Area. Follow the road along Pine Creek to Stage Road and to the boundary with Mt Diablo State Park. Take Stage Rd to Barbeque Terrace Road and connect to Summit Trail at the Barbeque Terrace Group Camp. Summit Trail goes straight up to the summit at 3850ft. The Mary Bowerman Trail loops around the summit and offers spectacular views. From there cut across the Lower Summit Parking Area and take Juniper Trail to Juniper Camp. From Juniper Camp take Deer Flat Rd to Burma Rd. Mothers Tr connects to Angel Kerry Rd and back to Burma Rd. You can take Burma Rd back to Stage Rd, or detour to Liitle Pine Creek to Falcon Rd and take the delightful Sunset Tr back to Stage Rd. On the way back to Castle Rock you can cut through the recreation area, or take Castle Rock Tr to the parking area.
