Absolutely loved this hike through meadows and trees with an amazing view at Dewey Point. Very well marked and light traffic. A fairly easy hike for anyone of average fitness. We were completely alone admiring the view and an even greater bonus was getting to see a bear!!

We hit the trail around 6:30/7am probably and let me tell you, the McGurk Meadow trail was a goddamn delight. Thank god there don’t seem to be ticks in the area, because there are a lot of tall grasses to walk through but outside of that- these meadows feel magical covered in dew with a morning mist and, if you’re lucky, deer munching down on their breakfast. The wildflowers are also gorgeous (in late August, at least). We made it up to Dewey Point no problem- it was the easiest elevation gain I’ve ever done (I think it’s 1000ish ft?). If you have the time and ability, head over to Crocker Point afterwards (it’s an extra 1.2 miles) for even better views of the Valley. We didn’t see anyone in the trail until we headed back, and even then it was lightly trafficked by Yosemite standards.

This for me was an ideal hike though beautiful forest and stunning meadows sporting abundant wildflowers. The trail Is well marked and easy to navigate. Only a few mud puddles to contend with. The view of Yosemite from Dewey Point is stunning. Skiing or snowshoeing to DP from Badger Pass is also highly recommended though they follow somewhat different routes than the hiking trail.

camped at dewey amd had a 270° epic view for sunset amd sunrise just out of my tent. heavy winter amd trail was wet amd down trees everywhere making trekkimg difficult with heavy bags

We started at the McGurk Meadow trailhead on Glacier Point Rd. The trail leads to a beautiful meadow and then enters a forest. The trail was blocked a number of places by fallen trees which might not be so easy to negotiate with a full backpack (we only had daypacks). After what seemed like more than the stated 4 miles we reached Dewey Point. I couldn't believe how magnificent the view was! Breathtaking! And well worth the hike out to the point. We were there on the Thursday before Memorial Day, late in the afternoon and there was no one else on the trail. There were small patches of snow, but none that were on the trail. We're thinking we may return and make it a backpacking trip visiting Taft Pt. and Crocker Pt.
