Overall a spectacular result to a stressful hike. The drive in was particularly stressful since I brought a four-door sedan and it was about 25 miles of pothole one lane road. The signs to the lake were pretty unclear. At one point in the trail there is a fork in the road with a sign that just says ‘trail’ so make sure to take a right! If you take the trail early enough you can catch the lake with a reflection of the mountains- 8-9AMtruly spectular!

Spectacular view! Just did this hike over the weekend. The trail was in perfect condition, no snow and barely any mosquitos (we had a particularly hot and dry weekend, maybe that helped...). Weather was in the 80s during the day and mid-50s at night. I found it to be an easy hike, flat at the beginning with most of the incline towards the end. The view is absolutely worth it! Pristine alpine lake. We didn’t catch fish but enjoyed the water and the views. Highly recommend!

Heavily trodden. Lots of day hikers! Pretty view of the lake and mountains behind it. If solitude is your goal this is not the place. Difficult to go around the whole lake.

Great day hike with the option of camping close to the lake. I’ve never seen so many bugs as I have on this trail. Bring the strong deet!

This is a hard hike with some really steep sections. But totally worth the view! Lots of mosquitos. Dog friendly. Went in the beginning of September and the weather was perfect.

Backpacked this in mid-July and the mosquitoes were insane. A mosquito head net and jungle juice (98% DEET mix) made it much more pleasant, although I still came away with a lot of bites. Even with all that, it was incredible. Would have been 5 stars without the bugs, but it was such a view, especially at night under a full moon. The bathtub itself is shallow, but not enough to touch. You can swim out to a rock in the middle, but I'd only recommend that to a strong swimmer. It is very cold and the hike and elevation probably took more out of you than you realize.

Would have taken 5.5 hours to the lake and back but I was motivated to find some fishing on cold creek and the creek coming out of bathtub. Best spots were just below lake otherwise really hard to access and overgrown the whole way up. Pretty lake. not too many flat campsites for overnighting but further adventuring up the lake looks like it could be nice.

The mosquitos this time of year are crazy, take bug spray, we had to reapply on the trail a few times. The hike is awesome, and pretty easy.

Trail is in great shape considering the winter we have had. A few downed trees and high creeks made for extra work. Otherwise it’s a great hike. A few bits of advice, the mosquitoes are really bad and Kaiser Pass Road isn’t for the faint of heart. If you are going to go, do yourself a favor and plan on spending a few days there just to justify having to negotiate the road.

It was a great hike and the end is sooo beautiful! We expected there to be a lot more snow still but it really wasn’t too bad at all. We did lose the trail a few times. The worst of it was about one mile in - it’s super washed out, under water and there are fallen trees everywhere so you can still get through without getting wet. Super helpful to pull up the app to see where you are on the trail, we had to do that quite a few times! Well worth it!

Hiked this with friends in August a few years ago. We got a late start so the section of trail with no cover and just boulders was pretty toasty. Luckily the Devil's Bathtub was biting cold and so refreshing!

Finding the trailhead was a little difficult. Drive past Vermillion Valley Resort and then signs will pop up for the trailhead. Well marked trail with a beautiful end point. In mid October it was really windy and cold on a sunny day with a predicted temp of 60 degrees. I would say it was closer to 40-50 with the wind chill so we weren't able to swim. It took us about 3.5 hours up and 2.5 hours down. About 3 miles into the hike, there is flatter ground to the right of the trail where there is a beautiful view of Edison and the surrounding mountains and valley. The view was just as beautiful if not more beautiful than the Devils Bathtub.

Devil’s Bathtub is a beautiful lake surrounded by some amazing peaks. The 4.4 mike hike up is mostly easy thought there is over a 1,000 feet elevation gain and it’s lost difficult at the end. The trails are well marked and the hike is beautiful. It took me about 2.5 hours with a full pack to get up there. There are plenty of fish in the lake if you’re into it. I did get hailed and rained on in the afternoon (mid August trip) but that happens in the sierras and it cleared up after. There are several good camping spots around the lake.

beautiful trail. There was a group of us girls backpacking it. It took us roughly 6 hours up and 2.5 down. You will see wild strawberries, which you can eat and of course lots of poison oak so be careful and dont stray off the trail. the last portion is a big of a challenge, as it is steep. we drank from the stream, fished at night and talked to the rangers. it was well worth the hike.

Great hike and nice area to camp once up top. The last mile was steep but other than that it is a relatively easy hike. The fishing was great, the trout seemed to enjoy lures and live worms. The only negative is the MOSQUITOES! I used repellent on my exposed skin but they bit through my thick hiking socks and also through tshirt and light jacket. I'm not sure what you can do to prevent them from attacking, but maybe more layers and also putting repellent on unexposed skin...Hike back easy and breakfast at Vermilion Valley Resort was great treat after a few days of hiking and backpacking.

Two great meadow views on the way up, couple of small water crossings to add a little excitement. The view across the bathtub is worthy of screen saver status and gives a great sense of accomplishment when you reach it. Took 6 hours on the way up with my 3 children (6,10,12) made many stops to rest and have lunch. Took 2 hours on the way back. Wanted to stop longer but the mosquitos at that time of day (6-8pm) were getting obnoxious so couldn't pause for more than 10 seconds without getting swarmed.

I did this as a day hike while staying at Mono Hot Springs in the beginning of October. The views were incredible and the lake is peacefully tucked underneath a stunning peak. The first 70% is very easy and the last 30% was a good challenge. I made it to the top in a little under two hours moving fairly quickly and about an hour and a half on the way down. Plenty of water along the water for you to filter. The water in the lake is of course freezing but definitely worth a dip on a warm day. Please remember to leave a little extra room in your bag to pick up trash people left behind. I was shocked to find garbage sitting along the lake. My dog absolutely loved the trail!

A medium-plus difficulty hike. The first 4 miles are either flat or very moderate slope, The more challenging climb arrives towards the end, but you get rewarded by a great view of the lake upstairs. I circled the lake clock wise direction , at first I had to walk on boulders , but later the trail was clear. I did the hike on 01-OCT-2017 , there was no one there besides me, felt as if I was the last man on earth. The entire hike took me about 5 hours including a long lunch break at the lake. At the end , I also went to inspect Edison lake at the bottom. Note1: one of the challenges of the hike is simply getting there, the Kaiser pass road is a one lane rough road full of holes where you cant do more than 15 mph - you get back ache , nausea and pray no truck comes ahead in the curves and blind spots :-). Note2: If you are already in the area , it's worthwhile making a stop at Mono hot springs - the best one there is "Old Pedro" which is the warmest. Kind of a relaxing compensation for a long walk.

Did this hike over Labor Day weekend 2017. It was a beautifully sunny day with a few moments towards the afternoon of quick thunderstorms. Majority of the hike is fairly easy. The last 1/3 gets steep and rough, but well worth it. I did this hike with my Lab and about a 30lb backpack. Most of the trek is shaded by trees and there is a meadow to your left about 1/3 the way in. Don't miss it... the lake "Devils Bathtub" is the highlight of the journey. Beautiful place to relax, picnic, fish, swim, whatever your fancy. I would definitely recommend this hike.

This was a beautiful hike! starts out easy, and then at the tail end the incline sneaks up on you to bring it to a moderately difficult hike, but well worth the extra cardio once you get to the lake. Make sure to check weather, as midday thunder/rain storms are common in this high of country. We were rained on for a few hours, but it cleared up to reveal beautiful weather! Mosquitoes are BAD. Recommend to layer up, and use bug repellent to be able to stand a chance. Can be done in a day if you are an active person who does cardio/hikes semi regularly. May not be as enjoyable if you try to do it in one day without being prepared for the cardio. Passed a few fisherman and they all said they got great catches. Next time I'll be taking a pole!
