This "trail" is a combination of Deal Trail, the Deal Connector, and highway 33 which can be linked together for a 5 mile loop. Both trailheads are well signed, but the 2 junctions along the way have no signs. Along Deal Connector, it is open with some okay views. A spur goes off to the left to Mine Camp in the first mile shortly before it meets Deal. This section of Deal travels down the narrow Bear Canyon which reminds me greatly of some of the other parts of Deal, and no surprise since it is cutting through the same sandstone. Cliffs are high and carved. It opens from time to time only to be narrow again. Finally it is very wide and the highway can be seen above. The trail parallels the highway for a way before getting to the trailhead. The highway offers a steady climb back with some views of the Cuyama Badlands which are always nice, especially in the afternoon and most especially in the golden hour before sunset. This route certainly has its interesting moments.
