HikingGreat!

Mostly shaded and some good incline to get heart racing! But up must come down and also steep downs. Parking at trailhead limited - arrive early.

Nice shaded trail. Mostly easy to social distance, a few narrow parts but even then only passed fewer than 5 people on those sections— just give the right of way if you have room to step off. Overall nice hike! I went counterclockwise and the last part was unexpectedly steep, just a warning!

Great little loop! With Marin opening up more there are no longer signs about the trails being for just locals. King Mountain is a great and less trafficked addition to the Dawn Falls loop. Watch out for bikers on the fire roads and know that which ever direction you hike this will require a steep decline where hiking poles are useful. Fido friendly.

HikingClosed

Not technically closed, but there are signs up saying the park is only open to locals (covid), and that if you have driven there you are violating this. Skinny trails for how many people are in the park - not much room to stay 6ft apart, so definitely not recommended for this time. A nice trail otherwise - some good views of the bay, and plenty of shade for hot days.

This was a great trail. I wouldn’t consider it hard but believe it was rated this way because there are parts that you have to “climb” because of rocks or branches/ narrow paths. Great incline up and down. We did the 7.5 miles in 2 hours and 20 mins. I would recommend starting early. The majority of it is shaded.

Completed this hike over the weekend, no water at dawn falls but still a very beautiful hike - the route shown on the main page is really 7.5 miles. Check the recordings page to find the one that is 5.5 miles.

It’s a well marked easy trail with plenty of shade which is nice for an afternoon hike. It wasn’t super crowded on a Friday afternoon... I maybe ran into 10 other people. As with most other trails this time of the season do watch out for poison oak on the sides.

First to Review

We often walk the Dawn Falls trail with our dog and make different loops, having always assumed the ladybug trail was quite steep. We are glad we gave it a try and added on the King Mountain Loop. Walking in mid April and there were scattered wild flowers. The trail is in good shape, with ladybug climbing steadily but at an easy incline. The king mountain loop is a narrower but easy to follow trail. One section has a series of stairs but otherwise generally easy terrain. Walkers in front of us encountered a rattle snake and we heard it rattle off back into the grass. Coyotes were howling as well. This place is a great outdoors oasis but so close to home and easily accessible. Parking at dawn falls trailhead area is always tough on weekends, and this time we were almost a half mile down the road. For those who like Dawn Falls, give this add on a try! It brings different ecosystems and views in.
