Nice trail and can be pretty rocky in some stretches. Some shady spots, some sunny spots. Not too many inclines. There can be some areas the trail is quite narrow and the mountain bikers can barely squeeze by you but no big deal. We did about 5 miles round-trip in about two hours. It was in the mid70s in October when we did the hike but it felt hotter in the direct sun. There is a $10 cash only fee to park in the parking lot at the trail head. Nothing real exciting to see but some good views of the lake.

Beautiful hike offering a diversity of terrain! Really long we didn’t make it to the end, but would highly recommend to anyone with endurance.

Pretty spectacular for jogging or working on hiking speed. Lots of open areas so make sure to bring extra liquids. Side note, last marked section of this trail(.7 miles down to the lake) is not worth doing. Head to the campground or stop by the lake on another section of the trail.

Just had a great day running out there. As of 21 April after a wet winter, no problems with puddles or standing water, 1-2 tricky but okay water crossings. BUT I did start all the way from Peninsula Campground Area on Rattlesnake Bar Road, and the first 0.5-1.0 miles were EXTREMELY overgrown (took my chances bushwhacking on the side of the hill rather than risk Lyme disease and snakes on the "trail".) Other than that, fantastic day with sometimes rocky but otherwise good trail conditions. Thanks to the folks on here who warned about standing water in winter/early spring.

Great running trail, but be careful with your footing as there are a lot of rocks. I used the trail for Spartan race training so I’m a bit used to it. Granted, I still hit rocks awkwardly every time. Nothing to technical on foot, and not a ton of elevation if you’re looking for some hill training. Most of the larger hills are deeper into the run, probably a good 6 miles, so unless you plan to run 12 miles, don’t expect too much elevation. In 7.8 miles, I got in 567 feet elevation. Still, a gem of a walk, hike, running trail with some nice views to boot

Great local trail to hike. Very scenic and not too busy (early morning). Couple of water crossings this time of year. So plan on getting your feet wet if you want to make it to the end of the trail.

did this trail on the spring last year. it was beautiful. butterflies all over the poppies. very tight trail though until you get to a certain area. so very tight squeeze with incoming traffic.

Dog friendly and beautiful but lots of bikers.

The trail is well marked and scenic. However, do not leave anything of value in your car. There are people waiting for you to hit the trail so they can comb through your car. Very messed up!

Great hike locally!! Came late in the afternoon, all the bikers had left. Pretty much had the trail to myself.

I wouldn't rate this hike as easy. Probably a little more moderate. Decent hiking trail with really pretty views. As far as the parking fee....there is no lock box to leave the $10. It looks like it was either broken into, or just needs to be fixed? A lot of the trail is in the sun, but if that doesn't bother you, then it is definitely worth checking out!

This is not an easy trail. Bring 4 quarts of water during the warm months.

Great hike along the river with intermittent river access. Great for dogs especially if they can be off leash or like to swim. Very rocky in places with modest elevation changes. Not many people out on a cool July 4 morning except several mountain bikers.

Good hike, but i would late the second half as moderate. especially in 88 degree weather. Strongly recommend this as an early morning hike and bring plenty of water. trail was rocky, so a good pair of hiking boots or trail running shoes are recommend. $10 Parking was limited, and we lucky to get the last spot.

We picked this one because it’s one of the only trails I could find that allows for dogs to be off leash. A good walk- one day we’ll do the whole thing. $10 cash to park. Rocky and harder than easy in the beginning - meaning your parents may not be able to do it. Definitely coming again with friends and dogs.

Wife and I went for a little hike to take some photographs. Nice little area with a lot of different flowers and butterflies. Good numbers of hikers, runners, and bikers, but everyone was very pleasant and the bikers were always very polite about giving us a heads up.

Bring sunscreen. Very sunny hike with not much shade at the beginning. My family and I walked for about a mile and half. Relatively easy. Fairly rocky. The view of the American river turning into the lake was quite pretty. The path is narrow, not wide enough for people to walk side by side. But we enjoyed our time overall!

Liked this hike. Did it with Travis. Skinny trail and lots of bikers but relatively flat and good views of the lake. In the sun.

Beautiful Trail but can be a bit sketchy. Sharing the trail with bikes is difficult when you have dogs with you.
