An absolutely stunning hike ! This is a truly difficult straight uphill trail, and because of high elevation it is extra difficult! You need to get a permit at the campsite (the office opens at 7am.) We've started hiking 7:20 and it was very cold - Windy Gap at around 3.5miles is REALLY windy and freezing so have extra layers ready! Our walking time was 5 hours but it took us 6,5 hours to get back... take enough water, snacks and clothes - it's a very serene and gorgeous hike !

Had to go elsewhere today.

Went up today & no where to park beyond Ranger Station & the cafe / store. The snow is piled up in any spot & the only available is for the store only. Closest parking is a half mile from the cafe coming up.

Snowshoed part of this trail from end of the road where we parked the car to almost Windy Gap trying to get to Mt Islip summit. This was probably a good 4 mile round trip. There's plenty of snow along the trail and snowshoes are highly recommended.

The trail was amazing, the lake a little low (very low) but my daughter and I had a blast. The views are amazing and if you see the little cafe and need a little snack its the perfect place. The owner was extremely kind and helpful!

If you are a light trail bicker this is not the hike for you! It is inclined all the way up and with high elevation hrs to breath, but if you are up for the challenge DO IT! I felt so accomplished at the top of that mountain and the pain was worth the view. You are literally sitting on top/ with the clouds, beautiful view. Wear good hiking boots!
