Props for the google map misdirection plug. Definitely do not use Google Maps to get you directly to this trail. Exit Castella to Castle Crags State Park to get the trail start for this area. Nice trail. Initially packed trail transforms to some nice rocky trail reminiscent to the Desolation Wilderness Twin Lakes Hike for myself. The trail end leaves you near Castle Dome and the other Crags. Gorgeous vistas of fascinating rock formations. Worth your time to climb up a bit more to get better views and get views of Shasta from that height.

Great moderate hike. Due to time limitations started at Castle Crags State Park at Vista Point. Trail is well maintained, marked and pretty much straight up. Took me 1.5 hour to get to the dome with no breaks. When at the base of the dome, look back every once in a while to see where you're coming back from. Beautiful view!

The Google maps directions are incorrect and we used apple maps to get to the vista point trailhead by dropping a pin. You need to enter the castle craggs state park and then head to the vista point trailhead, from here follow directions to Root creek trail to get to castle craggs trail. Strenuous uphill, but the views on top are worth it. After this hike we also walked to the vista point overlook to get a great view of all 3 mountains - castle craggs, mt shashta and gray rocks. A day well spent

Still snow on trail at the tippy top as of today. Apparently supposed to snow Monday again per locals. Nice & short butt kicker of a hike. Epic views at the top.

Lots of snow up in the last mile. Very slippery at times. Maybe bring a walking stick or ski pole or those spikes for your shoes. There’s a sketchy cliff at one spot that’s snowy and super slick.

HikingGreat!

Easy to follow along. The entire first half (which is closer to 3 miles) is up hill and the second half is down hill. The views are totally worth it and once you get to the end of the trial the views of all the rocks and Mt Shasta in the distance are well worth the climb!
