Great way to extend service road hike by a couple miles. Big rock rd is a bit shorter of a hike then big rock park. Take big rock to Pyles for a great workout. Awesome way to avoid cowles crowds, highly recommended

Moderate??? This was difficult. The back way up to Cowles is a steep incline. Bring lots of water.

Very nice hike! More of a challenge going up the trail versus going down. I definitely ran down, to get through the trail quicker. I encourage you to wear shoes with good traction & maybe even bring a walking stick. There is shade through out the tail.

uneducated dog owners make this trail a bummer

Great hike, great workout! As long as you go early enough, there isn’t much foot traffic

Awesome alternative to the popular Cowles Mtn trail. Not many people and a great work out.

Great hike good weather, great workout, get out and hike, enjoy!

Great way up to Cowles. Didn’t see anyone until I hit close to the top service rd. Avoided crowds by heading out at 515Am

I actually like this trail... there are some shades at the beginning.. not too crowded like other trails to Cowles Mountain... distance is just right.

Go early. Lots of people.

Really beautiful after all these rains, but a lot of people still blaring their garbage music on their garbage speakers, not cleaning up after their dogs, or worse still: cleaning up after their dogs, tying off the bags and just leaving them on the side of the trail. We picked up seven bags of poop just sitting on the side of the trail, if you bring a dog (which we did too) part of taking responsibility for them is hiking their poop to the next trash can (of which there is one at the top, bottom and in the middle of the trail.

I only did a small amount of this but it was beautiful and pretty well marked (I was short on time). I have no doubt had I continued that the views would only have gotten better. Wasn’t too much foot traffic and I was there on a nice springy Saturday afternoon. Will come back when I have more time for sure!! Not a bad trail running trail just a bit rock at some points (the name perhaps? Lol). Xx
