It’s mid january and there is still snow on the trail, but lots of thaw and lovely mud! You and your pup will be muddy but overjoyed with this hike. It’s a healthy 5.75 according to my apple watch. But it is not steep and there are a ton of viewpoints with resting benches. Speaking of the view, it’s a pretty one, with pine trees, the lake and other fauna. I went on a Wednesday and it was a silent meditation! Have fun!

We parked on the outside of the park to avoid any fees. Also, recommend to take waterproof shoes with grip. The snow is melting and created lots of mud. Beautiful scenery on the way to the top. 10/10 recommend.

Despite this trail’s suggestion that an encounter with the elusive panther of the north could take place at it’s summit, the only animals we saw were fuzzy friendly dogs. The trail is generally south facing which made for alternate patches of mud and icy snow on our hike in early January. The trail is wide and well marked offering several impressive views of the lake before the summit.
