Convict Lake is a photographer's paradise. The view of the lake, the aspen trees and mountains is phenomenal. The back story on how it got its name is entertaining as well.

Easy scenic hike. Upper end of lake nice with Aspen groves and rocky beaches.

Beautiful trail! Easy walk around the lake with spots to fish. We caught some trout on our way along the trail. It’s a flat trail for the most part and awesome views of the falls colors with all the aspen trees.

Great 2+ mile hike around Convict Lake which is so easy to get to. We were just there last weekend (early Oct) and got to experience great weather and beautiful foliage. It is easy for a family and we also were able to take our 4 month old puppy at well. Lots of people fishing but trails we're not so crowded. This is a great way to introduce yourself to an Alpine lake hike in the Mammoth area. Soo beautiful and will definitely do again.

Beautiful and easy hike for the entire family. A nice amount of shade along the way and opportunities to stop and enjoy the lake and fall colors.

Very nice loop trail. God views of lake and mountains. We like this as a first hike while we are getting used to the altitude.

Not enough shade to do the whole loop past early morning with our dogs, so we hiked just to the lake and back. Very lovely view. High horse usage, so would likely not hike again.

Nice easy hike...…its under 3 miles with less than 300 feet elevation change.

This trail is utterly lovely, with steep multi-hued layers of the granite mountain walls rising dramatically from around the lake’s perimeter, and varied terrain which ranged from open country to aspen groves, streams, and lush thickets. I went with my husband during early October 2018, and it was crisp and chilly, with intermittent rain showers. To add a hilarious touch, it began to pour on us right at the exact halfway point around the lake, at the furthest from the trailhead, and we were soaked! It was invigorating! This is one of the easiest hikes in the area, and really more of a pleasant walk with very little elevation gain.

Nice lake, great views and good fishing. The hike was a little rough due to some over grown vegetation, some swampy section's and over grown branches. There were lots of people, lots of campers in the area. A nice pub in the vicinity but only opens in the p.m. Water was super cold. We got to see some guys hike up the cliff and glide down, then jumped into the freezing lake to cool off. Lots of adventurous folk out there. It was a nice small hike for the kids but super unstable in some spots.

Two things made this hike (7-8 miles) fun: One was crossing the icy, shin-deep creek (we were prepared with water footwear) and then hiking on the spur trail (toward Mildred Lake) into the John Muir Wilderness, with wonderful views of Convict Lake, the robust inlet creek and mountains. Trail into the Wilderness is mostly straightforward, with cairns helping for the short distance where it isn't. We hiked from the parking area at the end of the road beyond the Convict Lake Resort. (Three stars -- spectacular, well worth doing, but not so spectacular as many others in the Sierras.)

Beautiful lake. A little crowded. Fun 3 mile loop around the lake. It was washed out in one spot from the run off - walking through it got us wet up to our knees. Great spot to bring the dog.

Easiest trail I have hiked in the area. Relatively easy to cross where bridge was out.

Easy and pretty views of the lake; you will get water up to your thighs/knees if you the stream, but that’s half the fun, isn’t it?

Completed a beautiful morning before sunrise hike. It was a quick and beautiful stroll with fantastic sunrise reflections.

Gorgeous hike and would highly recommend. You have to get your feet wet one time on the far side but easy to cross the creek. Absolutely beautiful, maybe a 2.5 hour easy hike with spectacular views.

A great easy loop that as of 7/4/19 has quite a bit of rushing water at the furthest point from parking so be prepared for wet feet if you want to do the actual loop. For me it was a little too crowded for my taste and very flat but it was a great little break while driving into the area from LA. It was great to see so many people out exploring the beauty regardless. Great for young kids definitely.

This is a stunning location. My husband, 9 year old daughter and I hiked it on two days ago. The lake loop is easy with stunning views. Parking was easy in the morning but by the time we left it was quite busy. Part of the trail is a bit muddy but just melting runoff from the peak. Warning that this loop is very busy with lots of people fishing. But it was great for young kids.
