Would rate upper end of moderate as the first mile you gain almost 1000 feet in elevation. No easing into this one. Absolutely no shade. Bring plenty of water. I brought 3.5 L and still wished I had another liter. Granted I hiked in the heat of the day (hit around 90 degrees). Overall, great trail that I found challenging. Good cardio workout. 360 degree view from Murray’s peak

Great trail for a morning hike. Hit it before the sun comes up and you’ll be in the shade to the first summit. Overall a good hike

Hiking

Really fun single track desert hike, the scenery is the same as anywhere else in Palm Springs but Murray Hill provides a unique 360 degree vantage point. If you can handle the initial elevation grade for the first mile, the rest of the hike is relatively easy until the final push to the ridge. The top has three square picnic tables to hang out at, below a short rock scramble to the summit. Very cool to sit on the summit and watch incoming planes below you landing at PSO.

easy hike up Shannon, down to Wildhorse, and then briefly vertical up the ridge to a long circular traverse to Murray. Figure on 4 to 5 hours round trip. 2 bottles enough water.

Hiking

Great trail if you want a hike with good elevation! You can stop at any point and head back, but in this case, we hiked from Garstin to Wild Horse and took Clara Burgess to Murray. Although the hike got strenuous, the views were gorgeous and we only saw a handful of people. We set out at about 7:30, and made it back around 12, while going at a good pace. It was about 7.5 miles. There’s picnic tables at the top of Murray if you want to bring a lunch! We followed the All Trails guide to get to the starting point and had no trouble finding the path (just look up!)

excellent trail - took about 90 minutes to the top at a pretty fast pace and maybe 10 minutes less down. I was trying to make it back before the sun set though so I'd budget 4 hours or so to be able to take in all the views. Only saw 2 other hikers the whole time.
