This is a fantastic backpacking hike that starts at the Fernandez trailhead. Head north by northwest to Chittenden Lake near Sing Peak. Loop east back down the trail by Vandenburg Lake for another great spot on your decline.

An amazing hike, and beautiful lake. The trail is well marked. Once you reach the alpine, cairns and rock lines mark the trail. Easy to follow if you’re paying attention. I can’t think of anything that would make this trip better.

Great trail and destination for a cold, but beautiful night and sunrise. Lake is clear and refreshing if you’re game for a swim. Didn’t see many on the trail, but we were a group of 14 so it’s possible everyone ran away when they saw us coming...

Many moon ago (26yrs), experiences this area with Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides that only been in business for 3yrs. Our group of 7 and two young hardy Monster guides treck this 4 nighter/ 5 day’er backpacking adventure that never fell short of spectacular, for example enjoying a golden trout cut-up into sushi from this alpine lake. Outstanding view of Mount Whitney,Sideview of Half Dome not to leave out the Stargazing at night!

Awesome!!!! Well worth the hike. Solid ground is a rare commodity if you are backpacking and looked to camp overnight. So the Early bird gets the worm. The trail is poorly marked and it's easy to get off track and end up at Lake Shirley. Just remember to stay to the left once you start the climb up from where the trail splits from the Lillian Trail Loop. Look for the markers on the left...
