I had a GREAT time hiking the Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoia! 4 miles, 2 1/2 hours, 500 feet elevation gain, Giant Sequoia, Giant Stumps, Historic Cabins, a waterfall, and only one other hiker the whole day! Probably the most depressing hike I have ever done (too many stumps...)!

Beautiful spring day to do this hike. No problem on the dirt road, parked along the shoulder as the road to the Nelder Campground was closed by a gate. Our kids ages 10 and 8 enjoyed this hike a lot as well.

Make sure you pay attention to how you got into the trailhead because you definitely will lose signal if you use navigation right from the app. There’s another trail, graveyard of the giants that is right next to this one. You definitely need an SUV to get to the trailhead when using directions from the map. I doubt a car would be able to make it. Also would not rate this as a easy/moderate trail. Definitely not flat, but you’re not breaking a sweat either.

Great walking trail! Lush forest with a flowing stream running along the trail. Off road vehicle highly recommended to access trailhead.
