The trail is re-routed and open now. They could use a few more trail markers and mark the ones they have with some sort of more visible color. The route here on AllTrails isn’t valid anymore, but hopefully it will be updated soon. No cell service for most of the hike, but service at the peak. Ample parking, no bathrooms.

HikingGreat!

A beautiful new trail ready to receive hikers, trail runners and desert lovers. This trail is not closed any longer. The good people of the pioneertown mountains reserve have worked hard to create this new route up to a breathtaking view of our Southern California desert valley. There are manzanitas, J trees, yuccas, coming back. Jump on this trail ASAP and take in the views!

Sort of closed because of the property owner dispute, but also clearly the Preserve-rangers are making or realigning the new trail. Can’t imagine why the power can’t just at least continue to allow historic use with “stay on the trail” signs until the new trail can be finalized and marked. Really not cool on their part and the reason I did just that...quickly hiked what looked like the new trail to me and did this trail and connected to the loop by the ruins for a great 7 miles

Not closed - clearly a “Neighbor dispute “ hence the makeshift, hand painted sign 1/4 of the way up that says “closed - no Trespassing” We continued regardless because the ranger station was open and there were no official closures at the the base / entrance Cool hike. Well marked trail and some great views and Joshua tree type rock formations No shade and it’s an out and back

First to Review

This is a great hike. You wonder when you start off but at every hilltop and corner you are rewarded with great vistas and so many different rock formations. The wildflowers were spectacular. We had hiked Toro peak the day before so to see it from afar was a treat. We left Coachella valley in a very dusty windy condition. We had none of that here. We did this in 2.5 hours with view breaks. Well worth the effort!
