Getting a later start and having to park over a mile below the parking lot made this a partial hike. Starting from Chantry Flat, the trail gently ascends through elfin forest for a couple miles, then more steeply through pine forest up to the ridge, where there is an abundance of manzanita. Squirrels are plentiful, as well as birds. There was a couple spots where flowing water crossed the trail. One bit of excitement was a helicopter rescue of a mountain biker who went off the trail. The Sheriff's rescue unit hovered over the area and sent a rescuer down to pick him up and lift him out of the area. After that, it was a peaceful scenic hike all the way up to the ridge.
