RunningGreat!

Wide open fire road trail with plenty of neighborhood parking. (No parking from 10pm-5am.) As you can tell from the elevation map the first half of this is going to be a climb! Most of the time it’s gradual with some steep grades throughout. It’s very peaceful here - Although you can see the freeways can’t really hear them. Most folks put their masks on when passing by but plenty of space to keep even 10ft away for those lazy/anti maskers out there. Can’t wait to come back!

Wide open fire road. Lots of bikes and hikers. 90% masked. Great views of mountains and city scape.

HikingGreat!No shade

I hiked this on an early, overcast, cool late summer morning. The temperature made the constant, sometimes steep elevation changes more tolerable than it would have been when it was hot. Although it was overcast when I was there, I doubt there is very much shade on this route. The route follows the motorway most of the time, but veers onto the crest trail in several sections. Saw deer, quail, and a hawk that approached quite closely. I saw most of it before 8:30 in the morning, so come early. There are a couple of sections where the highway noise becomes quite noticeable, but it is pretty quite in most areas. Although there were a number of mountain bikers on the road, they were outnumbered by the hikers and they did not ride as fast as they often do in Laguna Beach. If you are looking to climb Verdugo Peak, this is not your best option as you hike the whole length of the range to get there. But if you are looking for a long hike with views of the city and some wildlife on the way, this is a great choice.

Long and sustained uppity up with some very steep sections. Pays to take a light wind breaker as temps drop as you climb and if you stop to see the views you’ll cool down very quickly. Surface is mostly good with some loose gravel and sand, take a spare tube or repair kit as there are plenty of sharp edged stones about. Saw 3 harmless snakes and alerted of 2 rattlers by another rider which we didn’t come across..... all in all a great workout with good views.

This trail is purely for cardio. It’s a wide fire road, with a long slow elevation. In terms of aesthetic, imagine a world made of dirt. However, as a plus, the views are expansive at the top, the lizards walk with you on the trail, and it feels safe for a solo hiker.

Hiking

The trail that this hike follows is not the actual Verdugo Crest but actually the Verdugo Motorway. It was fun but I think the Verdugo Crest is probably more challenging. This wasn't too difficult. This had some pretty cool views. We started at 6:30 am and finished in a little over 5 hours. Our GSD enjoyed it too. Not too steep in either direction.

I loved this trail, it’s long, up and down plus spots to take a break along the way. I suggest starting it by midday if you want to fully enjoy it.

this hike is all on a fire Road and it's a steady incline but nothing more than moderate and it ends up at a couple of benches at the top of the mountain and the views from there are pretty good there are also several single tracks that you can take that go towards La Tuna Canyon overall it's a relatively easy hike but I'm not real crazy about fire roads. you can keep going towards vital link I believe it is but that is a steep decline to get back down from there

Excellent hike today!! I was prepared for rain but I lucked out and didn’t get a single drop on me. Lots of clouds made for gorgeous views. Fire road all the way to the top. Moderate incline for almost the whole way... although I found a few sections were pretty steep but made for a good workout. There will be a few uphill sections on the way back as well. This fire road is probably my favorite one in the Verdugo Mountains. Non stop views.
