I see people on this trail all the time when I am at this park and it looked basic...which is why I chose it to do my first night hike. Well I should have paid attention when others say this is not really a loop. You hike one trail till you find what looks to be a steep old firebreak. Then follow a series of use trails till you make your way to another established trail for the return. It is steep and somewhat confusing, but manageable...unless you are in the dark. Verdict-I had a blast, but not everyone's cup of tea

Not a loop so much as two different hiking experiences. Walking the loop clockwise, the first part is a relatively easy uphill walk on fire roads to the water tank; after that, it becomes something of a scramble down some fairly steep grades. The first part is dog-friendly, the second part can be challenging without a well trained dog.
