I loved this trail! Be patient. The beginning is a gravel fire road which is quite underwhelming but once you hit the forest it's just a beautiful hike. The length is the most challenging otherwise a fairly easy hike. Mixed terrain with some definite rocky areas but manageable. You'll share the hike with mountain bikers but the trail is wide and there's more than enough room for everyone. I saw several very tame deer (they literally jumped within 5 feet in front of and behind me on the trail like we were playing a game!), turkeys, and lots of birds and squirrels. I went on a weekday and there was minimal people on the trail. Took me about 2 hours 45 minutes including a rest by the lake. I'll be back!

Entered the trail head near the lagoon. You can take a single track trail on the left of the dry creek or take the fire road up the right side. The canyon trail is doable for most about 2/3 the way. The trail forks off right right across the creek bed and is pretty washed out. We walked our bikes up the last 1/4 of the trail to the lake- but it was worth it. Picnic tables and beautiful lakeside vista provided good shade to take a breather. The decent down the fire road provided some fun technical wash-out terrain perfectly suited for a beginner. Definitely worth the effort and goes into the record books as a great anniversary bike ride. Be sure to grab a beer or a glass of wine at the Otter Cafe and watch the dogs swim in the summer to celebrate!

Trails are dry. Meadow trail has many thistles!

Wide rocky road. Easy grade. Beautiful amble thru oaks and fields. Wild turkeys. No dogs allowed. Lots of bicycles. Signs of horses.

I would rate this route as a moderate one. I hiked this trail with two other ladies. We started at Parktrail trailhead and went onto Canyon Trail, around Lake Ijsanjo and down Spring Creek Trail. The weather was perfect for today's hike - cool with a little fog. We were fortunate to see many does and bucks out early. Clearly mating season has begun. It took us a little less than two hours to do the hike - about 2 to 3 miles an hour. Great workout.

A pleasant, moderate hike to Lake Ilsanjo and back. Went on a very sunny Saturday afternoon in early July. Nice heat under the sun but not sweltering.

Beautiful trail, especially a few days after the rain with a strong stream in the creek. Other than a short stretch that was too steep for me to run up or down, moderate trail. Free parking on the street near trail head.

Always a good time coming down Spring Creek - look out for turkeys! Access the trail from Stonehedge Dr. as well, instead of Spring Lake.

This is a fine trail to get into the heart of Annadel State Park, at parts rigorous.

I'm a rookie so the rock gardens were a challenge. Otherwise great with a beautiful little lake at the top!

Bad info here, no pups allowed! Trail looked pretty though!

Beautiful trail mostly under a canopy off trees along the creek.

I think there is some confusion in this data. The map shows the route as being in Annadel state park but the description has it along the American river on a trail called canyon creek trail. There is no trail by that name in Annadel. Also, Annadel is a few hours drive from the American river.
