Pretty moderate trail with LOTS of switchbacks. It's a nice, peaceful hike through the forest. View from the top is just ok.

Fantastic hike through the redwoods. Lots of switchbacks. Great ocean view from the top though hot. Started from Fernwood. Amazing redwoods that have clearly survived fires.

Decent short trail. It’s 3.6 miles. A little loud with cars driving on the 1. Good view at the top.

It’s longer than 2.6 which is fine. The trail is pretty steep and has switch backs. The fog blocked all views, you can’t see the fog on the way up till you get to the top. It’s an ok trail not over the top.

The trail is lots of switchbacks and does have cool redwoods and a great view of the mountain across from the trail. 3/5 stars because the “ocean view” at the top didn’t meet expectations. Was still fun, was a little foggy of a day for us so maybe it would be a better view on a very clear day.

We did both Valley View trail and Buzzards Roosts trail for 6.1 miles. This app says this is a 2.6 mile trail but it is not accurate. Buzzards Roosts trail is a 3.6 mile trail (round trip). If we are to pick one trail over two trails next time, we would definitely pick Buzzards Roosts trail over Valley View trail. Buzzards Roost trail is surrounded by Tons of Redwood and shaded by trees so even if hiking in a hot weather, it’s still cool and nice. On the top of the trail, you will get both valley and ocean view.

Great moderate hike. Very enjoyable views and vistas. Didn’t mind the lack of fabulous view because the entire hike was very majestic.

Good but not great hike. During August 2019 many better trails in the area were closed. Unfortunately saw a hissing rattlesnake on the trail which was very freaky. View from the top was nice but quite fogged over. Could catch a very small glimpse of ocean.

A nice forest landscape, among some nice Redwood trees. A lot of uphill: at the fork in the path, the right-side option is steeper and shorter than the left-side option. Three stars because the view did not payoff after the climb.

Loved it! Despite all the 4-star ratings and people saying that the view is sub-par I disagree. It was really fun, we did the loop counter-clockwise and had a great time!

Good hike with a variety of redwoods, rivers, tree tops, and a small bit of ocean view from the top. 4/5 stars because you could still hear some cars/passing traffic

Nice trail, we started at the parking lot and strolled by the river. Trail was lovely, fairly smooth, and we took the top loop clockwise which was an easier grade up. We liked the top - although further from the water than expected. I think the kuttle shack is a weather or radio station as we heard voices coming from it but we kinda liked it. A good short hike in a hot day as largely shaded.

the trail itself is lovely, lightly trafficked, steep at some points. Like other people are saying the top is kind of subpar, but the loop is lovely.

The trail itself is fine but the top is a bit of let down. There is small power grid station sort of thing and you will hear car noises on the road to adjoining mountain.

Great views of Big Sur on the way up and then the Pacific at the top. Decent grade for elevation change - you climb quite a bit over a fairly small distance.

Views at the top were somewhat disappointing: an electric tower, a road, and some upscale homes.

Great little hike with a nice view at the top. Stunning red woods. Not too busy with people.

Beautiful trail. I was expecting this to be more of a stroll but it was actually steeper than we expected. Some of the pathways are narrow which allowed for small groups of people to pass through one by one. There’s plenty of shade due to the redwoods. Top view is beautiful because you can see the ocean in the far distance.

I expected better views at the top. The hike is nice among the redwoods and there is a lot of shade. But the view is of the pacific in the distance, not very close.

This was a little steeper and a narrower trail than we expected but the views along the way were gorgeous.

Diversity of views and ecosystems including redwood and oak forests on a semi-challenging incline. Great workout.

Beautiful trail. We went with 5 families including children ages 5-15. Although was a bit challenging with the high elevation for some of the little ones, everyone made it to the top and had a great time. Lots of flowers and beautiful redwood giant trees.

This is a really beautiful trail! Until you’re nearly at the top, you’re covered by the shade of trees which makes the quick uphill zig zag very doable. No point of the trail doesn’t have something lovely to see. From the hills across to the vegetation along the trail, this is so worth it. The panoramic view from the top is stunning but I personally think the climb itself it prettier. Not good sitting places up top and full exposure to sunlight, so be prepared. Also, need the right hiking shoes for the trail has a lot of rocks and roots to conquer!

Been awhile since I’ve posted a review on AllTrails. I keep a log of places I hike and camp. Here’s my late review. These trails are well kept. Great for hiking and biking! Beautiful views and scenery. Nice place to take someone to show them around. Weather permitting depends on what month you go. Ive been during rainy season and summer. Go prepared with water and first aid.

great trail, right side had a greater incline than the left side of the loop.

Quick hike, good views. We don’t have kids but saw plenty on the trail. Seems like this would be good to take kids and still get decent ocean views. We also used this to scope out the trail to Manuel Peak - which I think would be too much for most kiddos.
