Awesome trail! Great walk through the redwoods. The view at the top is obstructed by power lines but other than that, it was perfect.

Great trail with awesome views at the top. Literally have waited 30 years to go here. So glad I finally made it! Highly recommend to all. So beautiful!

What an amazing TRAIL!!!

Nice trail. Lovely red woods and I saw a few little mushrooms. However, you can hear cars as you are walking along the path which is something that really detracted from the experience for me.

This short trail offers forest, river and ocean view.

Beautiful Forest setting.. walked by the Big Sur river for a while. Some scrambling over and under fallen trees and branches added to the adventure for me! View from the top was beautiful but would not do it just for that. This one truly is for the journey not the destination! :)

Single trail that turns into a loop towards the end. Mostly switchbacks in a forest setting with an ocean view at the top. Walking from the parking lot to the trailhead adds about 1 mile to the total (When you check in at the guard station the sign describes this hike as a 4 mile round trip). Nice hike for a workout, but there is a distracting amount of freeway noise for most of it (highway is in eye- and earshot) and at the top is a radio tower and industrial building. Wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for a quiet, serene, secluded in nature experience.

My husband and I really enjoyed this hike. It’s about a mile and a half at a pretty non stop uphill incline, so while it’s not a very long hike, it is tiring. We went straight to the river inn after for burgers and bloody Mary’s. Nice views at the top and a lovely walk through redwoods beside the river at the bottom. Wouldn’t recommend if you have younger kids.

I took us 2 hours and turned out to be closer to 3-3.5 miles. Fun hike overall with nice views at the top but pretty steep all the way to the top (for us, at least, who are just occasional hikers). We went to the right at the loop and it was a little muddy and mushy for us on the downhill (or that would be uphill if you go left) so watch your step! Saw a couple banana slugs on the side of the trail which is always exciting!

A little tricky with young kids (ages 3-5), especially with trees down near some steep switchbacks. Loved the redwoods and the water-level river bridge. Did not make it to the top so can’t comment on the ocean view.

Great, quick hike with territorial and ocean views at the top!

Easy hike, some steepness, the top has nice views and some rocks you can sit on.

Nice trail with wide path and mild vertical change. It was enlightening to see the fire scars on the magnificent redwoods. On the negative side is the constant highway noise.

Steep but overall easy. Well maintained. All the redwoods are near the beginning if that’s what you’re after.

Great trail! Nice redwood forest...river....and ocean view at the top!

A nice hike with great views of redwoods. Nice length loop- not too short, not too long- but the traffic noise that is present the majority of the trail kind of bothered me. Next time I’m in Big Sur I’ll look for a trail that’s quieter- either one that heads further away from the road or perhaps weaves through a quiet valley.

Lovely trail through the forest, with beautiful views of the ocean and the mountain at the top. When you get to the Buzzards Roost trail sign (where the loop starts) the right side is shorter, but steeper. The left side is a bit longer, an easier hike, but gets more sun.

Pretty moderate trail with LOTS of switchbacks. It's a nice, peaceful hike through the forest. View from the top is just ok.

Fantastic hike through the redwoods. Lots of switchbacks. Great ocean view from the top though hot. Started from Fernwood. Amazing redwoods that have clearly survived fires.

Decent short trail. It’s 3.6 miles. A little loud with cars driving on the 1. Good view at the top.

It’s longer than 2.6 which is fine. The trail is pretty steep and has switch backs. The fog blocked all views, you can’t see the fog on the way up till you get to the top. It’s an ok trail not over the top.

The trail is lots of switchbacks and does have cool redwoods and a great view of the mountain across from the trail. 3/5 stars because the “ocean view” at the top didn’t meet expectations. Was still fun, was a little foggy of a day for us so maybe it would be a better view on a very clear day.

We did both Valley View trail and Buzzards Roosts trail for 6.1 miles. This app says this is a 2.6 mile trail but it is not accurate. Buzzards Roosts trail is a 3.6 mile trail (round trip). If we are to pick one trail over two trails next time, we would definitely pick Buzzards Roosts trail over Valley View trail. Buzzards Roost trail is surrounded by Tons of Redwood and shaded by trees so even if hiking in a hot weather, it’s still cool and nice. On the top of the trail, you will get both valley and ocean view.

Great moderate hike. Very enjoyable views and vistas. Didn’t mind the lack of fabulous view because the entire hike was very majestic.

Good but not great hike. During August 2019 many better trails in the area were closed. Unfortunately saw a hissing rattlesnake on the trail which was very freaky. View from the top was nice but quite fogged over. Could catch a very small glimpse of ocean.
