Buzzard's Roost is a 4.1 mile out and back trail located near Boulder Creek, California that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running.
This is one of the favorite Big Basin hikes: it starts on the legendary Redwood Trail near the park headquarters, heads over to Blooms Creek Campground and zigags up the Pine Mountain Trail -- leaving the redwood forest completely for awhile -- then culminating with a steep scramble to a rocky overlook. You can see pretty much all the remarkable diversity of Big Basin (except the waterfalls) along this route.
Strenuous but doable, totally worth the effort for the views
Loved the view and picnic at the top!
Fun hike you can do in a little over a couple hours and get a great view from the top. It's a nice workout with the climb, but not enough to be too much for those of us who haven't been hiking in a while :) Slowing the pace can allow any of your friends to tag along, nothing technical.
Lots of climbing but in a good way; the views are rewarding. Glad we did this on the first day when we had lots of energy and were anxious to get moving.
