Easy stroll on a dirt road thru managed forest. I added an extra 1.5 miles by taking the shady and sunny red trails which were very pleasant single track. Entrance to the trailhead is difficult to find, not signed from the main road. Definitely use GPS, feels like you are initially pulling into someone's driveway but single lane gravel road keeps going to trailhead.

Nice pretty easy 4 mile trail with plenty of trails to take to make longer. Water in the creek. Lots of shade. Beautiful view of lake at the top.

Enjoyable hike. Not much wildlife except grasshoppers and a couple of squirrels. I went counterclockwise - uphill for roughly the first mile of the trail, but mostly a slow incline. Go the other way and get all the uphill out of the way in the first half mile - and it's rather steep and rocky. I'm a newbie to this, so I picked a trail others said was well marked - and it is. Still, I appreciated being able to download the All Trails map!

Completed this today with my two dogs (chihuahuas) and thankfully didn't get mauled! about 90% of the trail is covered in shade which was nice. Took us about an hour and fourty five minutes to complete because my dogs like to stop even 5 minutes to smell something. More rocky on the right side of the trail than the left. Saw a few hikers, runners and bikers on a Sunday morning but mainly it was just us. Crossed over a few bridges (one over a dry creek and one over a small one with water) and saw the lake through the trees on both side of the trail. Not many wildflowers or bugs which was nice. It is a service road, but it's not ugly. Good place to go on a hotter day because of the shade and to get away from the noisy lake. There is a small parking lot (gravel and bark) but no restrooms. We had no problem staying on the trail because of the trail markers and maps attached to them along the route.

Great short and easy/moderate hike. Trail well marked. No views of the creek, slight views of the lake through the trees.

Saw a ground squirrel. Didn’t get mauled. 5/5 Okay easy hike with gradual up & downhill. No view of the lake on the ~ 4 mile loop. Go further to the outlook point to get a decent view, I suppose. (Didn’t actually go there)

Decent 4 mile hike. The view of the lake is hidden behind the trees but still pleasant. Gotta pay attention to where you’re going because there’s diff trails you can follow.

The No Dogs tag on this trail is incorrect. Leashed dogs are welcome. A nice hike with an incline on the way out. Doing this loop clockwise seems to have slightly lower grades. There are obstructed but pretty views of the lake along the way. The mountains are still snow capped in the middle of June. The trail was completely dry but the creek is rushing full. Lots of places to enjoy it along the way.

Did this hike on 5/28/19. We followed the route on this page and did the hike clockwise. I would say this is a very lightly trafficked easy hike. You'll encounter a lot of melting snow, chartreuse moss. Trail was about 50% snow but if you have waterproof hiking boots you'll be fine. No real views, just a glimpse of lake Tahoe through the trees 3/4 of the way into the hike.

Saw a bear! Didn’t maul me! 5/5

If you go all the way to the top you get an absolutely beautiful view of Lake Tahoe. Totally worth it!

Snow started about 4-6 inches. By the time we reached point 12 it was more than a foot deep. December 21.

Beautiful and easy quick walk. However, the signage is pretty atrocious and actually doesn’t make sense. I was unable to find a purple path! Just bronze and silver. Worth some quick fall beauty though :)

Very serene walk through the forest in very well defined trail. Some beatiful views of the lake. I don’t know if I’d rate this a ‘3’ in terms of difficulty. It is much easier than other 3’s as rated by this app. It feels more like a 1.5 or 2.

Very serene hike in the forest . Moderate elevation in the beginning and then it's an easy hike. We went in mid October late morning and only saw 2 people the entire time.

Lovely 4 mile loop trail. well marked. Closer to easy side of moderate. Entire trail on dirt forest road. Easy footing, mostly hard packed dirt and some rocks. Heavily treed, occasional views of Lake Tahoe. Make sure to sidetrack to creek edge on ascent to catch some lake views. Hiked week day mid-Sept. no other hikers; couple of bikers passed us, and saw others crossing ahead on a mtn bike path. Entrance road NOT MARKED off Highway 28. Turn in at Tamarack Lodge and stay to left, passing a right fork to a ranch. then easy parking at trailhead.

Pleasant, shaded, easy slope, double track, forested, a glimpse of the lake on the return section. Well marked trails with many options to extend beyond the basic loop, for e.g., Antone Meadows adds an easy 2.45 to the 3.9 loop, and not much more of a climb beyond the original 500 ft. Scenic Overlook would add about 2 miles. On this Sept 5 weekday there was nobody on this trail. Will do again.

Very peaceful walk in the woods. There’s a grade going in but then it’s pretty flat. The brook was still active so that was nice to hear and see. We only saw five other people on a Friday morning in mid July. Lots of flowers in bloom too. The trail is a nice wide dirt road, and some places Rocky and another is covered with Pineneedles. You will not get a good workout but you will enjoy the peace and quiet.

Enjoyable hike in the woods, with a stream running by, and beautiful views of Lake Tahoe at one point during the walk. The uphill and downhill portions are at the beginning and end of the hike, with easy strolling most of the way.

Beautiful scenery and amazing outdoor views. Well maintained trail with a small stream that leads from a series of ponds. Would definitely hike here again.
