I went here alone on a hike. This is a very beautiful trail, with water flowing alongside the trail throughout almost consistently. The path itself is very narrow but there are a lot of trees and bushes on either side, so there's no dearth of shade. Just about a mile from the trailhead, there's also a beach close by with an amazing view. Do check it out too!

I took my kids (ages 4-6) out on this trail this morning. It was cool and overcast. This was a really easy hike with a lot to see (flowers, rabbits, quail, etc.). The kids were really into it and this was the farthest they had ever hiked. They were pretty tired at the end. If you are hiking with kids, be aware of the mountain bikers. The trail is pretty narrow with brush on either side most of the way, but there is room to pass. All of the bikers we saw were careful about approaching us, but they do sneak up you, so be aware so your little ones don't get run over. There really aren't too many places to sit, or rocks to sit on, and rest. However, there is a sort of bench you can sit on at the third bridge you come too, if you come up from the Poppy entrance. It's a pretty relaxing spot in the shade. All in all, this was a great hike. We will definitely do it again.

Awesome trail, green everywhere, stream all along the trail, TONS of bunnies!! Room to run, lots of coverage. No specified parking though because the trail head is in a residential area, read the signs!

Pretty hike. We went after a rain so it was muddy in sections. It was nice to hear the water flowing most of the hike.

Great place. Hardly any people. Cell service is spotty so make sure you go with a friend or someone knows where you’re going. Best trail run I’ve done in a while. Trail is narrow so passing slows down the time but there are hardly any people! Go do it!

Just did a family hike, and for what this trail is, it was great. Gulch trail so don't expect an ocean view, but a peaceful walk and with the spring flowers in bloom, a gorgeous scene. Took just over 1.5 hrs for the loop, not counting lunch break on the way back. Definite recommendation if you're in the area.

Mostly flat but very relaxing hike!

Great local hike. If you start up at San Joaquin it’s an easy down hill walk, scenic & beautiful now with spring flowers. If you start at Poppy it’s uphill grade is a good workout for a run or mountain bike.

This trail is super pretty with all the color from the recent rains. Path is narrow. Lots of lizards, bunnies and hawks. It's great to have some sort of water feature on a hike, and you basically follow the water path while on the trail. We really enjoyed our afternoon here.

Nice easy trail next to a small creek most of the way. Felt like I was somewhere remote, but within view of houses the whole time. Beautiful flowers and a few rabbits

hiked this today. I'm someone who loves a good view, so this trail wasn't my favorite because of that. However, if you love being out in and close to nature, this is a good fit for you. we saw rabbits, plenty of birds and a field mouse. heard lots of frogs by the stream. it's a great hike for kids, good patches of shade and not super steep. overall it was a good workout. there are a few muddy patches, especially after the 3rd bridge.

It is closed but we went and others did too. Would like to know how much the fine is. a bit of advice for those who might want to go on a muddy trail: wear boots a d walk directly through the muddy middle of the trail. It's the deviations off the trail to avoid puddles that hurts the wildlife. It is an absolutely beautiful hike. great way to experience the beauty of crystal cove scenery while avoiding fees/ enforcement of closures.

Closed today but still went on. Plenty of other people on the trail as well. Be aware of bikers. Muddy spots but easy to avoid/walk around. Great for a hot day since it’s mostly shaded trail.

This is a nice trail. It has some rolling hills, but not too bad. We’ve had quite a bit of rain lately, so the creek was running. It’s always nice to hear running water on a hike. This would be a good hike for families with children.

Great warm up trail for either hiking or trail running. 2 1/2 miles on and 2 1/2 miles out of very easy and moderate trail hiking. Allow three hours to complete the hike both in and back.

Great little out and back trail! Not completely flat, but not overly challenging, either. Terrain is very dry, but that's no surprise right now. Creek was flowing a little bit, nice to be able to walk along some water. Lots of available, free parking at the trailhead. Directions from All Trails are perfect. No restrooms or drinking water. Will definitely do this again when all I have time for is a quick, local hike.

Favorite run while visiting Newport Beach. Dirt trail, rolling hills, and partial coverage make this a fun, scenic, and comfortable run for those not afraid to tackle some steep inclines and declines.

I like this trail because of the challenging uphill segments and the cool ocean breeze. I like it even more now that I run into occasional hikers more frequently than I used to, so I don't feel like it is dangerous to go alone.

Trail is actually 5.2 using Cougar. Nice tail in the city good to have.
