Solo ride. Rained yesterday and cold today. Nice dirt and not too sunny. Flawless ride and fast climb.

Solo ride - flawless descent on GoPro. Climb was a little slower since legs a little tired from previous ride and my run yesterday.

Great hike! El Prieto (to the right at the fork) has more shade than the other trail to the left. So many mountain bikers. Some have bells and some don’t. Keep an eye out! Additionally, we encountered several mountain bikers digging up the trail with shovels and moving boulders around. Major LNT no no. I was disappointed to see this. Saw a beautiful deer on the trail, though. That was awesome.

I ride Mountain bikes it’s a really nice trail lots of hikers on the way done just have your beer bell to keep them aware your coming down. Other than that has rock gardens, it’s fast and switchbacks. From the parking lot to brown mountain peak and then head down to el Prieto to the parking lot is about 14.5 miles.

Take El Prieto up to enjoy the shade during the elevation climb, start early to avoid excess heat on the fern trail, and enjoy the benches and trees up at the top before heading down the lower brown mountain trail :)

Interesting trail, if you go counter clockwise it’s all trees and shade (after the boring street part), then on the way down is rocky and totally exposed desert. Got there at 8:30a on a Saturday and the lot was already full. There’s street parking though. And yes, lots and lots of mountain bikers, the majority of whom are cool and for the rest, PLEASE GET A BELL.

I just want to remind everyone that bikes must yield to hikers. Happy to get out of the way, but make noise, say how many to expect, and don’t run hikers over.

Be mindful of mountain bikers. As a hiker you are definitely sharing the trail through the whole hike. It was difficult a few times to find space to move out of the way for bikers. If you’re a mountain biker, it looked a bit difficult or definitely a trail for an experienced biker (but I’m no expert). We witnessed a handful of minor bike accidents. Steep, hilly, and narrow parts of trail. Plenty of shade during much of the trail. We saw a few snakes on the way there and a rattle snake on way back. Just watch the trail and be mindful to let the snakes pass and you’re fine. Wild flowers are in full bloom throughout hike. The earlier you go the less crowded by hikers, but bikers go earlier. Enjoy! Moderate hike.

This is an awesome trail. It looks to be primarily for those that are mountain bikers but they are very courteous and respectful to those of us that are hikers. There were some nice areas of water, shade, and sun. A great way to spend time with friends, family, or just time alone.

I’ve ride on this trails a million times and I gotta say they’re really fun, only downside is there are too many hikers specially on the weekend, try to head up there early to avoid some of them, and keep shredding !

I just rode to the saddle / fork for Brown Mountain / El Prieto. Had the trail mostly to myself at 7:30am. By 8:45am on my way back down there were dozens of mountain bikers climbing. It took me 52 minutes to climb from the Altadena Drive dead end. This is a great technical 3.5-mile climb to the saddle. There are many trail choices from there. I chose to return down.

Awesome trail for hikers. Yet there are tons of bikers as well. Maybe ore bikers than hikers on this trail. Just be careful especially in the curve. Some bikers have manners, they carry bells and tell you how many people are coming behind them, but some bikers have no manners, don't carry bells and they come done the trail with full speed. If you are hiker, start hiking super early before 6am or after 10am, Bikers tend to start around 7am ish.

I go here every Sunday for Mountain biking and I gotta say this is one of the best trails ever in the SoCal, nice challenging uphill with a technical downhill you can’t go wrong with this trail, in summer go early cause it gets hot real quick up there.
