Park at the end of Rising Hill Road. Walk up the steep paved road past a couple houses where you will see a big gate on the left. Go around this and continue on the road until it forks (a quarter mile or so), then bear left onto a smaller trail/road. Stay on this all the way to the Brown Mountain Road Junction (sign), then bear to the right and continue on another 2.5 miles to the Ken Burton Trail Junction. Turn around here and return the way you came up. Keep an eye out for mountain bikers.

The elevation gain seemed pretty gradual and gentle: not too many steep sections. Good trail to run on and also seemed easy to mountain bike. I saw more bikers than runners and more runners than hikers. It took me 3 hours and 25 minutes to do the out and back, stopping here and there for photos with a 5 minute coffee break :) at the turnaround point, Ken Burton Trail Junction. It took me 2 hours to reach this point and 1h 25m to return.
