Getting There

This trail is in the redwoods, tight, narrow single track with some steepness and is sometimes technical. Make sure you go around clockwise leaving the South for the end as its downhill then.

I don't think this is 3 miles long. I'm thinking closer to 2.

Saturday of Labor Day weekend, saw no one at all. Not a spec of trash or graffiti. Pin drop silent with magnificent views of redwoods in a more-brightly lit drainage than other parts of the park. The bridge is still out but it’s passable as are a couple low crawls under fallen giants. Creek side and hills up and down make this trail interesting throughout. Very glad to do it clockwise; the final .6 mi is steep down, when we used our hiking poles.

Fantastic hike....absolutely worth the effort. Make sure you go around clockwise leaving the South for the end as its downhill then. As others have stated the Rhododendrum Trail is marked closed but its easily navigated as its simply a bridge out with really no water....easy work around. This is another train that we only saw one other couple on....simply incredible to have the trees to ones selves.

Great hike. The parks map says South Fork is difficult and Brown creek is easy but the top half of Brown Creek isn't easy. About 1/2 mile of South Fork is pretty steep. This is my favorite type of trail.....in the redwoods, tight, narrow single track with some steepness and sometimes close to technical. Pay attention or you will be planted face down. Focus and you will truly enjoy the hike! There is signage for Brown Creek Trail closure because of a bridge out. I went ahead and did it figuring if nothing else I'd just wade the creek. It turned out to be an easy go around... Highly recommend this one and I will do it again. So far, Prairie Creek has been the best redwood area I've hiked. Part of it, no doubt, is I'm doing it off season and have it mostly to myself...
