This is a run that I’ve done (or at least parts of it) in various conditions. However, I hadn’t run it in the heat in quite some time. Even though I took shaded trails as much as I could, my whole body was fairly lethargic feeling. Even so, there are so many beautiful reasons to run here, so as long as you try to avoid the hottest part of the day (which is something I completely failed at doing), you may be fine.

I love this trail as I enjoy seeing coyotes and if you go early, this is almost a guarantee. At this time of year (April), I like to take the single trail down, which is just before the first cattle gate as it is the newt migration. However, SO SO disappointed to see that mountain bikers have heavily scarred this trail that they are not even supposed to be on, as posted. As a result, we also saw several newts who had been run over. So thoughtless and such erosion due to people who cannot respect the rules.

I appreciated the steady incline, but there aren’t a lot of pretty things to see until you reach the peak. If you like delayed gratification this trail is ideal for you

This was a great hike, most people have dogs and my little dog Dustie made it no problem and can be unleashed but voice command is a must. Be careful of the cows and don’t walk to close to them like I did, a mamma cow let me know I was too close by nudging me along, I thought staying 30’ away was a safe distance until yesterday. There’s picnic tables and BBQ pits and restroom by the entrance gate.

The real good part only comes after reaching Briones Road, where it is open air and you get to take in the views of the rolling hills. Briones Peak was a tad disappointing though as my view was blocked by trees or maybe I’m doing something wrong. For a better view, take a right turn onto Briones Crest Trail, pass the two lakes onto Mott Peak Trail where you’d reach Mott Peak. There isn’t any resting bench there but views are so much better.

Awesome hike. We parked at Alhambra Creek Staging area. The parking fee is $3 and there is an extra fee for dogs of $2 per dog (we weren't charged the dog fee due to the small size of our dogs. They are both around 5 pounds.). The trails are well marked and easy to navigate. We had our two small dogs with us and they did great. There are a few different trail options you can take, so your hike can be extended quite a bit. The sections we took had some nice, moderate hill climbs and down grades, and a small part where there was some water on the trail. Most of the trail was open with no shade, but there are a few shady sections at the beginning and towards the end. Really nice views of the valley on the upper sections.

Beautiful setting but the trails are not clearly marked causing lots of confusion.
