The trail from beginning just after the cable bridge to the last campground (Railroad Flat) is a dirt road accessible to vehicles, there is a gate blocking the road just after that that you may walk around. The gate is located about 5 miles after trail starts, so if you'd like to drive out to that point the trail would then be roughly 2.5 miles.

Long, but easy hike. Great for a hot day since there are a number of places to cool off in the Merced River.

This is the first trail that I have taken my Fj cruiser on. It’s pretty much stock. I have bilstein 5100’s front and back, all pro rock sliders, and rci skid plates. I made it with no issues. Found a few fun hills to to climb off the trail. I put it in 4 low and locked the rear dif. Climbed them with no problem. We had lots of fun. We saw deer and other wildlife. Followed the trail to the end and made a huge circle towards Coulterville. Most of the trail can be done in 4x2 with a little clearance. Just watch out for a few deep washouts. There are some fenced areas with private property/no trespassing signs posted. Just stay on bull creek road trail and you will be fine.

Not a summer trail! This is an old railroad gravel road. No cover at all. Since it was so hot we drove in all the way so did the 2.5 mile there and back. You can see the river, and it’s amazing, but you can’t get down to the water except in the campgrounds along the drive in.

Beautiful trail in spring when everything is green! River was rushing and it was cool and refreshing. The trail follows the river and is quite flat. I think it follows an old rail road bed from years past..
