Came here today for a Memorial Day hike and was not disappointed—the variety of flowers, trees, and wildlife makes every turn of the corner a treat, and the views of the lake are spectacular. While some of the loop is entirely exposed (and wow it was hot today!), there are several long shady stretches throughout, and a constant refreshing breeze. The hike itself was fairly quiet and we only ran across a few other hikers and bikers, but the boating area was quite full of families enjoying lakeside bbqs and picnics. This is a very beginner-friendly hike that passes the many recreational areas surrounding the lake—with several shorter hike options that veer from the main loop. As of Memorial Day, the boating area is now open, but the RV park and swim beach both looked closed. We parked at the boating area, normal fees applied ($10/vehicle). Not sure if the other lots are open/charging. Bathrooms and water fountains available at each rec area, although I can’t speak to whether the fountains are currently working as we brought our own water.

I would not recommend hiking alone here.

Great hike! Plenty of wildlife and scenery. Bring a couple bottles of water and some sunscreen and go explore the side trails as well.

Rolled the dice today and drove from L.A. to get a nice long walk / hike during this cvd19 times and it was worth it. Paid 10 bux for parking , took 1 liter h20 and made the loop with ease. Also took a little side trail for a birds eye view...there are little multi trails around as well to explore. You can find your peace and be with others here.

It might have just been that it was a hot day, but my mom and I were struggling at the end to finish the loop. We're beginners and enjoyed the trail a lot in the beginning because there was plenty of shade, but after the first mile, the shade went away almost entirely. The yellow flowers were really pretty, but parts of the trail were very narrow and the flowers hit me in the face once or twice. The "wildlife," which was really just geese, ducks, small birds, and an osprey were one of the highlights. I could often hear bird calls, which was a treat. I would come back on a cooler day.

I love the muddy green hills. I have only seen a couple people out there in the last few raining days.

Did a couple of mountain biking trails a day after rain trails were muddy and slippery but still fine if you go at a moderate pace only slipped twice and fell once. Steep for beginners or bikers with little stamina but the downhills are awesome.

This trail is great, except for the northeastern part. It flooded in two areas near the fencing with airport. The area had some rain in past month. Bring water shoes or be prepared to wade barefoot past the wet areas. It should dry up in summer. Still open during covid-19.

A combination of not-using paved road and muddy area. The whole loop is really long and took us about 3 hrs to finish with carrying our 4-month-old kitten on a trail for the first time. If you do mountain biking or walking a dog, this trail will fit you better than us.

A little tricky to perfectly replicate the track here. It's a mix of trails and roads. But essentially, you're going around the lake. I imagine in the right season, parts of this trail can be pretty buggy.
