Hike up to Bolinas Ridge from Cronin parking area, through gorgeous forests of tall redwoods and bay trees. At the top hike along the ridge towards Pt Reyes, through forests and meadows of cows with stunning views to the mouth of Tomales Bay and out to the ridges of Novato, down to a fork that takes you right through open meadows and lovely old trees to Jewell where you turn right on the path thru Samuel P Taylor State Park back to the lot.

I have completed this hike for the second time earlier this week. To get up to the ridge, you will be climbing up a steep fire road for approx 1.8 miles (with an elevation difference of over 1,000 ft). Once you've reached the Bolinas Ridge, there is a nice walkway with gorgeous views to Tomales Bay and the mountain range (to your left) that stretches along the ocean towards the Point Reyes National Seashore. On the way down from the ridge you'll be following the Cross Marin Trail through the Samuel P. Tyler State Park back to your car. While hiking through the park, you'll be seeing many beautiful redwood trees, and you may enjoy a picknick in one of several sitting areas in the park.

Started the loop at Bolinas Ridge trail head and took jewel trail down to cross Marin trail which was nice, flat and shaded but somewhat boring. The fun didn't pick until I took the steep steady up hill climb on the Shafter trail to the Bolinas Ridge Trail then back to my car. The return hike was a gentle downhill walk with pretty views of pt reyes.

Muddy but drop dead gorgeous once we got up on Bolinas Trail. I’m in favor of renaming Sweet Pea Murder trail - just about killed me. Loved this hike!

I rode my touring bike from the Jewell trail to Randal trail. The Jewell trail is less traveled and in some places, the trail is over grown completely by the grass. There was light rain, so muddy terrain was hard to get a grip up the hills. Probably too hard unless you have a pure mountain bike. The trail goes near cow pastures, which was fun to stop and see. Also liked the two picnic tables, where I might have stopped and had dinner if the timing worked out.

This is a great ride on a well-constructed trail, with gorgeous views. Ranges between single-track and narrow trail, a combination of dirt and rock surface, but not rocky or technically challenging. Nice gradual climbs to top, with views south to Novato and north to San Francisco and the Bay. Adjacent trails down into beautiful redwood and mixed forest are unfortunately on private land. The biggest complaint about this trail is it's too short, with no loop options. Even on a beautiful June weekend, there were few other riders and hikers on the trail.
