Free wilderness permit required for overnight visitors. Free campfire permits required for fires and camp stoves. Trails in the Trinity Alps are always open: however, most trailhead access roads are closed or impassable during winter. NOTE: Do not attempt this route if you don't like steep, rough trails. This is one of the most difficult hikes in the Trinity Alps. The trail is steep and overgrown in places, and has exposed sections that can feel sizzling hot on a summer afternoon. Long pants are recommended due to brush-choked sections.
