NOTE: Users report intermittent closures. Check with the park before visiting. This trail is primarily a OHV trail but users may also hike it. Fun SUV trip to beautiful high views of Lake Tahoe. Explores a beautiful, high area west of Lake Tahoe and is near the east end of the famous Rubicon Trail. Many lakes and viewpoints. Trail may not open until early July due to deer migration. Moderate difficulty. Narrow, steep and rough in a few places but suitable for stock, high clearance SUVs. Some tight brush. Be careful when wet.

Really easy trail in my 4dr Jeep Wrangler JL on 35s and 3.5” lift. We also had a stock xTERRA with us and they got through the trail without a problem. Beautiful views and lakes along the way. Lots of mud to play with on the trail from the melted snow and rain. Made it fun.

Had fun doing this trail in my 2door wrangler with 35s and 2in lift. stock 4wd should be fine, some hills require 4wlow. rocks were small, and just in patches here and there. my 2 sons rode their dirt bikes and they felt it was just ok... too rocky to be very fun. lots of places to turn around if you dont go all the way (which we did not).

Super fun trail. Came in from the south along the rubicon. Lily lake is amazing. If you want a fun afternoon 4x4 trip this is a great one.

Significant snow on trail about 6 miles in. Had to turn the Jeep train around. Will come back in a few weeks. Otherwise a fun 6 miles!

Beautiful summit views that make it all worth it. However, don’t attempt if you have a stock SUV that cannot get extra lift. I was able to make it via my LR3 with the suspension raised in off-road mode. That said, I did have to build a few rock ramps to traverse a few large gaps and oversized rocks. Most of the trail is fine and expect a few scratches due to the pine trees in spots.

This was a really good trail over all. Not super hard like you need a rock crawler and not super easy like stock blows through it. It’s bumpy! Sensitive wives won’t like it lol but I really just enjoyed it

Okay, let me first say, you CANNOT take your standard SUV on this trail. This was my first try at this trail and it’s a bit more than expected. There are a few areas, that I needed to overcome because of the size of my truck and the obstacles. There are areas with large boulders and trees. It is steep! One small mistake and you could damage your truck. Experienced people will find this trail easy. People whom are just getting into the sport will find this hard. If this is your first time on this trail, you will wonder when and how it will end, don’t turn back. Keep going up! When you reach the top of the hill there are two roads, turn LEFT it will take you back to the main road you first started. There is no cell service until you hit the main road. Good luck, stay safe and have fun!

Entered at the northern part. Made it about 1/4 of the trail and need more than a stock rubicon. Lift or winch or both at one point that you start to climb a rock face. Pretty fun. Will try the south entrance next time. Looks like less major elevation changes. More gradual. If you have a daily driver like mine. This trail is fine. Just have to be careful

Not much to this trail. You do go through some nice meadows and a couple aspen groves. Not much elevation difference along the trail. I would definitely rate this an easy hike. The trail was well defined and not difficult to navigate. Enjoy.

This is a great easy dog friendly loop trail. Nice dirt trail (easy on dogs feet). Nice picnic stops by water. In fall, the leaves are beautiful!

This a beautiful, majestic beginner trail, especially in the fall with all the changing colors. The trees, leaves and streams make you feel like you are walking in Washington. Easy to navigate, clear single track, this is a perfect 1.5 hour kid friendly, dog friendly trail.
